ATLANTA — A federal judge ruled on Thursday that Georgia’s redrawn congressional maps violate a section of the Voting Rights Act.
The Georgia General Assembly approved the maps back in 2021 and were signed by Gov. Brian Kemp. The maps shifted the Republican edge from 8-6 to 9-5.
A series of lawsuits were filed against the state of Georgia arguing that the redrawn maps illegally discriminate against minorities and take away their voting power.
Governor Brian Kemp issued a proclamation on Thursday afternoon calling for a special session of the Georgia General Assembly on Nov. 29 to revisit laws relating to the state’s districts.
“Today was a victory for the voters not just of Georgia, but of the country,” Rep. Nikema Williams said.
Channel 2′s Richard Elliot was there in 2021 when the Republican-controlled General Assembly passed the new maps. Republican State Senator John Kennedy assured Elliot that the current maps are good.

Affirmative action in voting needs to be taken to the SC soon while we still have some sane Justices
It’s an illegal order by the federal court.
According to 2022 US Census Bureau estimates, 31.0% Black or African American.

Activist judge legislating from the bench - disgusting.
What a glorious day to be an American.
Just do what Biden does, ignore it.
But Traitor Roberts says [essentially] “there are NO ‘Rat Judges”.
The same one partisan POS who refused to shift the fake Georgia state law attacks by Fatti Willis on the Trump people to federal court.
John Roberts will now assure us that the federal kangaroo courts are non-political.
These piles of dogsqueeze aren't even hiding it any more.

The Democrats waging successful lawfare to gerrymander congressional districts their way in the South.
They got the Voting Rights Act to support them and the Supreme Court sided with the Democrat gerrymander of Alabama to create another Democrat district just the other month.
In every one of these cases, you can find Marc Elias involved. I wonder how much information is fed to Elias by HRC and cabal to use in these cases.
Forty years ago, Steve Jones was a conservative prosecutor and next a municipal court judge. He has changed a lot in the past couple of decades.
Note that “Brain” Kemp can call a special session of the legislature to fluff Steve Jones - but can’t call a special session to help Trump out...
This needs to be challenged.
It assumes all blacks only vote democrat.
Further where does it say anywhere democrats or republicans are guaranteed to control any geographical area? It defies people when enough decide to change their minds and shift an area. Once an area shifts, do we then have to now ensure it can’t shift back? Or only when liberals win an area?
Finally how does this stop any person voting for who they want? The area I live in has shifted more liberal, why hasn’t there been any coirts trying to make sure my area stays conservative?
Yet another verdict from an unqualified primitive savage. A tribal chieftain who could barely read and write but is appointed to the bench to rule over the ghetto blasters.
Prior to Obama, this warlord was probably wearing a loin cloth and dancing around a boiling vat of grease in the Thunderdome. It’s Atlanta, don’t you know. /spit
It’s 2023
If they haven’t integrated in 60 years, it’s their own damned fault
If you “must not” use race to determine college admissions,
then, why “must” you use race to determine voting districts?
“Notice how Democrat-controlled states always have their district lines approved by the courts?”
That’s right, and in those cases we keep hearing that it’s a states rights issue and the federal courts have no right meddling.
Sounds fair enough to me.
