We have two strings of low-wattage landscape LED flood lights that turn on/off each day. No failures.

Heck, one can strobe LED's rapidly (as in many LED flashlights) with no problems. But, that said, mechanically turning lights on and off does create electrical spikes that if not suppressed could degrade a LED not well protected. LED's are just a type of P/N junction, really.
