Doesn’t protect him from impeachment, where all the details can be exposed to the country.
He would probably resign so that the VP could issue the pardon after being sworn in. So, if he loses the election…assuming he’s the nominee…he would resign which would elevate Harris to president and she would pardon him. If he isn’t the nominee the same scenario would apply.
Whatever the scenario, he knows he’s home free as long as he’s pardoned before a Republican president comes into office.
