Reporter Asks John Kirby on Claims That Russia Destroyed the Dam: “Doesn’t Seem Logical, Similar to Blowing Up One’s Own Pipeline”

In a press conference held Tuesday, a reporter confronted National Security Council spokesman John Kirby regarding claims that Russia had launched an attack destroying the Nova Kakhovka dam in the Russian-controlled parts of Ukraine’s Kherson region.

“Does it seem believable to you that Russia would destroy a dam and flood ethnic Russian villages, and cut off a water supply to Crimea? I mean, that doesn’t seem logical. It seems about as logical as blowing up one’s own pipeline, doesn’t it?” the reporter asked.

Kirby, however, did not directly address the question but indicated that they were actively seeking information from Ukrainian sources.

“We’ve come to no conclusions on this. We’re working with the Ukrainians. We’ll try to get as much information as we can,” said Kirby.

--

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that the Ukrainian military accused Russian forces of intentionally blowing up the dam at the Nova Kakhovka hydroelectric power station on Tuesday.

“Russian terrorists,” said Zelenskyy. “The destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam only confirms for the whole world that they must be expelled from every corner of Ukrainian land. Not a single meter should be left to them, because they use every meter for terror. It’s only Ukraine’s victory that will return security. And this victory will come. The terrorists will not be able to stop Ukraine with water, missiles or anything else.”

However, Russia denied the allegation and blamed shelling by the Ukrainian army.

Russian state news agency, RIA Novosti, reported that the shelling by the Ukrainian army reportedly destroyed the upper half of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.

The outlet reported:

Ukrainian troops continue to inflict artillery strikes on the area of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, RIA Novosti correspondent reports. Also, several shells fell in Novaya Kakhovka , eyewitnesses reported.

Last night shelling by the Ukrainian army destroyed the upper part of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. The blow, presumably, was delivered from the Alder MLRS. There is an unregulated discharge of water. According to the head of the administration of Novaya Kakhovka , Vladimir Leontyev, the valves on the dam were demolished, but the dam itself was not damaged. He added that the rise in the water level in the Dnieper within the city is from two and a half to four meters.

“If a country wants to flood a downstream area, it can simply open the dam it controls, instead of destroying it.”

Sure, but then they would not be able to try to blame the other side for the flooding.

If you can’t tell which side is blowing stuff up, then you’re watching a pretty odd war.

May I suggest, all you need to do is trust your eyes and logic. You are a smart guy.

The Germans came out last week and said Ukraine was behind the destruction of the Nordstream pipeline. It makes no sense for Russia to blow up their own pipeline and cut a major source of revenue. I don’t know if what the Germans are saying is the definite truth. I lack a lot of trust these days. Biden has his motives to takeout the pipeline. Maybe the U.S. destroyed it and Germany is saying the Ukrainians did it so they have a reason to cut money and weapons to Ukraine.

As for the dam, there’s tons of misinformation about it. A Freeper was insistent with me that was the case yesterday. Today she sends me video proof. Within three minutes I was able to track down a video of a bridge above a dam that Russia blew up in 2022. That video was edited into the so-called video proof. The Freeper said I was wrong even though the bridge video is dated in 2022. She obviously has bought into support for Ukraine in such the worst way that she does not even believe her own eyes. As for the logic of Russia destroying the dam, there isn’t any. They have zero to gain and obviously plenty of reputation to lose.

I’m not taking sides over any particular event in the war. I’m for America and I don’t want to waste money and arms on a war in a place where we have zero interests.

Western mainstream media:

The Russians blew up their own NordStream pipeline.

The Kremlin ordered a drone strike on the Kremlin.

Russia blew up the Nova Kakhovka dam to destroy the defences they had spent over half a year building and deny water supplies to Crimea.

There's word out that the next dam above the Nova Kakhovka hydroelectric station began releasing water BEFORE the Nova Kakhovka dam breach.

Some suspect that it was to increase the water flow through the breach, and thus the downstream damage.

But it also prevents Russia from advancing west, which in the northern part has been the case for months.

I’ve read that. The problem is proving it. It’s just someone’s words without evidence.
