Fox was trying to run across Canada with a leg prosthetic to raise money for cancer research. He succumbed to the disease just under half way across. At the start in Newfoundland no one knew about his run but by the time he hit Toronto he had captured Canadians hearts and his later death just cemented him in the minds of Canadians everywhere.
