TRUMP: A DESANTIS RUN WOULD ‘HURT’ AND ‘DIVIDE THE REPUBLICAN PARTY’
RSBN ^ | April 20, 2023 | Summer Lane

President Trump issued a solemn warning this week when it came to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s potential presidential ambitions, noting that a 2024 presidential campaign from the popular conservative leader would “hurt and somewhat divide the Republican Party.”

Trump explained in a new video, “Ron DeSantis is a young man who is not doing well against me in the polls, to put it mildly. I believe that if he decides to run for president, which will only hurt and somewhat divide the Republican Party – which we don’t need – he will lose the cherished and massive MAGA vote, and never be able to successfully run for office again. I believe that.”

TRUMP: We’re getting lots of job requests from people currently working for the Social Security/Medicare cutting DeSanctimonious Campaign.

DeSantis has not yet announced an official bid for the presidency, but he has not denied that he will run, either. The Florida governor has also been busy touring the country recently, visiting key battleground states like Nevada, Iowa, Ohio and Texas.

“If he remains governor, which is what Florida voters assumed he would do,” Trump continued, cracking a small smile, “it would be a whole different story. Just sayin’. But who knows?”

The president also said that his own campaign was getting job requests from people currently working for the DeSantis campaign. “Ron’s Poll numbers are dropping so fast and furious that many people are speculating he’s not going to run,” Trump added.

Since November, President Trump has regained what seems like unstoppable momentum in the GOP 2024 primary political polls.

As reported by RSBN, Trump has eclipsed DeSantis as the preferred GOP nominee by around 30 points in most polls. For example, Morning Consult’s most recent 2024 National Republican Primary poll (April 14-16) found that Trump had earned 53 percent of the GOP vote for the 2024 nomination against DeSantis’s 24 percent.

“I’m leading in Texas by 42 points,” Trump declared. “[And] Iowa and New Hampshire by a lot. Overall, by close to 40 and by 10 against the scammer, Joe Biden.”

Via J.L. Partners Polls, Trump holds a 33-point lead for the Republican nomination in New Hampshire and 30-point lead in Iowa, per Interactive Polls.

Right. Primaries are always messy. But one good thing about them is that they force candidates to take a stand on the issues. Coronations rarely do that.

I am fine with Trump making this sort of argument. It's a fair case he's making.

I am not fine with him attacking DeSantis in a viscous manner as has done in the past (for example showing him in an old photo with high school students and suggesting he was perhaps doing inappropriate things with them). I don't think that it is good to take other MAGA republicans and trash them, Trump cannot be the only MAGA leader standing or he will be a blip in hisory, they GOPe will swallow the movement up and crush it like they did the Tea Party and Contract with America. He needs a team and a next generation that will follow in his footsteps and he should be mentoring and supporting them, not tearing them to pieces in very personal ways. If he does build a team to go on after he is retired from politics than he could go down in history as one of the most influential leaders ever. If he does not, he will be forgotten as a roadbump on the superhighway to fascism.

Trump may be right.

But sometimes the primary debate increases public awareness of platform issues and is a good thing.

The problem comes when citizens decide if I can’t have MY republican candidate, I’m just going to suicide the country and vote Democrat.

Well sir, if you run and he runs, you are likely the one to split the party. Maybe D is waiting to see how the kangaroo court turns out.

The same argument could be made against any other Republicans running in the primary. Why should DeSantis be singled out?

The election is still almost two years away. Some people are waiting to see if a conservative runs.

He might.

Just like Ted Cruz did.

That split the fake GOP party as much as anything.

The elites CAN NOT allow an outsider in office again. That is what this is all about.
So, what they have done, and will continue to do, is back a candidate who will tow the establishment line.
And that is what is happening with DeSantis.

See, I like Trump and will vote for him if nominated. This ticks me off. It’s either vote for him or nobody. I wish he would just campaign on the issues and forget about the others. He detracts from his message when criticizing others.

“…public awareness of platform issues”

Are you kidding?

The entire world know there is a senile plant in the White House owned and operated by China ushering in masses of military age foreign men and giving them our money dosing with fentanyl and killing more young people than were killed in the viet nam war, after shooting us up with a death serum while giving 120 billion to an actor in ukrane

Who, that watches Republican debates, doesn’t know that?

Right

So why is DeSantis and 90% of freepers falling for this?

Probably because there is always a non-zero chance that [God above forbid] a 79 year old man might drop dead at any given instant, regardless of their health or energy level.

Also not everyone is going to go full-Romney (amongst others) and just forgive and forget some of the cutting comments Trump has made about him.

Just my guesses

By Trump standards this message where he calls DeSantis a young man, is an olive branch.

I would love to see DeSantis as VP to Trump in the White House in 2025, but two people as conservative as that on the ticket opens the door for a comeback victory for Biden .......

No spectator sport, except Aussie rules footy or the World Series, is as enthralling as American presidential elections .......

Well, he certainly did deny it. Perhaps not recently, but he did.
