North Carolina: VETO OVERRIDDEN
NRA Explore ^ | 3/29/23 | NRA/ILA

Posted on 03/29/2023 11:55:07 AM PDT by BDParrish

Today, March 29, the House voted 71-46 to override Governor Cooper’s veto of Senate Bill 41, a bill that recognizes law-abiding citizens’ right to self-defense while attending a church with a school attached and also repeals the redundant permit-to-purchase system.

NRA thanks the Senate leadership of Senator Danny Britt, Senator Warren Daniel, Senator Jim Perry, Senator Phil Berger, and others for fighting to protect the rights of North Carolina’s law-abiding citizens. Also, on the House side, NRA thanks Speaker Tim Moore, Representative Destin Hall, and others for their tireless efforts to advance Second Amendment freedom in the Tar Heel State.

Further, NRA thanks the lawmakers who voted for the veto override and the North Carolina Rifle and Pistol Association for their leadership in ensuring the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens are protected throughout North Carolina.

Gov. Cooper’s veto has shown law-abiding gun owners another reason why they must always be ready to vote to elect officials who will work to protect their rights. Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox for further updates.

“Since we have open carry in NC, this means anyone can purchase and carry in public so long as it is not concealed.

Which is OK as long as they study and understand the self defense laws, which in NC can entrap and jail the unwary.”

Open carry, IMO, is the worst option.

Unless, you have achieved critical mass. And there large numbers. to the point where the average people are used to seeing it. It makes the open carrier a target.

This was a no brainer for Cooper since the churches with Christian Schools involved led the charge against him repeatedly. He can virtue signal and pay no price politically. He did not forbid other Dimms from coming over to help us. He is playing typical NC politics.

Good. Thank you Captain Valone, GRNC and the voters of North Carolina, your representatives did you right.

I don’t think so. People in NC still go to church, and they got tired of being vulnerable. IMHO.

You’re right. He also watches the antics of the Western Governor’s Association and dreams of some that leftist power rubbing off on him.

Yep. He’s a lame duck. I would love to see him run in 2024 on the democrat primary. He’s so boring, he will put the cameraman to sleep.

Correction: I am on the Gen Assembly site and in the roll call I see no Dimms helping override. Excuse my error.

Correction: I see no names of any Dimms helping to override. Pardon my error! There were a couple of Dimm absences, maybe thats what was referred to but I now doubt it.

Meanwhile the GOP majority in the legislature caved on Medicaid Expansion, one of Democrat Governor Cooper’s highest priorities. This capitulation will raise the cost of Medicaid for eternity.

I am looking now at Dwight Creech’s summary of the law and he says 5 Dimms supported original passage.

And we still cannot carry while school is in session.

All right again I think I must correct myself. The Senate bill was what I was reading. It gor tabled. The house bill got passed vetoed and now veto overridden to become law and it seems to allow carry at a school affiliated with a church. (Somebody help me back to my chair I ain’t doin’ so good.)
In a few days we’ll find out what the experts say about what actually is and is not legal with Christian School carry. For now I need to just shut up.

I certainly was not advocating open carry.

I agree with your comments.

We will see a lot of stories about hysterical Karens screaming “He’s got a GUN!!”
