Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev issued an ominous warning on Monday, suggesting that Russia could strike the International Criminal Court (ICC) with a hypersonic missile in response to its decision to issue an arrest warrant for President Vladimir Putin. Attempts to try Putin in the ICC would have "monstrous" consequences for international law, Medvedev, deputy head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, said in a statement on his Telegram channel. The ICC, which is based in The Hague in the Netherlands, concluded on Friday that the Russian leader had committed war crimes in his full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which started almost 13 months ago, citing the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children. It marked the first time that an arrest warrant has been issued against the leader of one of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council. "The ICC judges got excited in vain. Look, they say, we are brave, and we raised a hand against the largest nuclear power without c******* ourselves," wrote Medvedev.

The ICC might try Putin in absentia in some kind of show trial, but I doubt it. This smacks of theater.
The ICC can try anyone in absentia and then convict them. While the US is not a participant in the ICC it could have an impact on an American if the ICC were to convict them of a felony.
I doubt there would be any similar impact for a Russian.
With conservatives in command this war would possibly never have happened and we could even be stronger Allie’s with Russia. Perhaps even in event of war with China. Ukraine just neutral. Now thanks to the deep state evil radical,left and I hate to say it even neocons jumping on the bandwagon we may end up in a nuclear war. We could not have made this a SNAFU anymore than if we tried.
I agree. And it would have been better to respond as you said in many ways, and is actually the usual Russian response to such things (Slavic shrug and “irrelevant”).

It could also a tit-for-tat over-the-top response issued by Medvedev (not Putin) to the spew from Linda Graham (not Biden) about how we should start shooting Russian jets out of the sky in international airspace after the Russians peed on our unmanned drone.
Would the impact of that be bigger than the January 6th “insurrection”? /S

Russia has impotent rage. What can they really do? This failed war on Ukraine has exposed them as a fourth-rate power that might have a few functional nukes. Maybe. Even that is doubtful.
