The cartel’s Scorpions group said it “decided to turn over those who were directly involved and responsible in the events” related to the March 3 abduction of four Americans in the border city of Matamoros, according to a letter leaked to the Associated Press by a Tamaulipas state law enforcement source.
The letter also claimed the five members “acted under their own decision-making and lack of discipline” when they attacked victims Latavia “Tay” McGee, Shaeed Woodard, Zindell Brown and Eric James Williams.
McGee and Williams were found injured but alive in a dingy shack on Tuesday after a four-day search...

Republican talk of classifying cartels as terrorist groups obviously did this.

The Cartels do no want bad publicity.
This incident was bad for business.
I’m in Cabo right now.
Probably the safest place in Mexico.
Much safer than many cities in the USA.
That is because the cartels own these big resort hotels down here.
I was told this by the driver from the airport and confirmed by a US citizen that lives here.
About five years ago there were some criminals that were preying on the tourists down here.
Petty crimes, robbery, etc.
The Cartels issued a cease and desist warning.
Get out of town.
A week later four or them were having from the bridge.
Many more just disappeared.
Most likely buried somewhere out in the Baha or dumped in the Pacific.
After that, no more crimes against tourists.
You see when you have billions in dollars to launder, they can afford to build some of the nicest hotels in the world.
They certainly don’t want the gringos to stay home.
Yeah too much bad publicity for the current administration. They're afraid if they kill Americans directly the next administration will actually impose meaningful border control.
The Mexican government probably realized the risk of a real US response and told the Cartels to turn them over.
Who knows if they real guilty ones were turned over, however.

More ethics than the Biden Crime Family, that's for sure.
I doubt the Mexican government tells the cartels to do anything. I also think the cartels turned over the actual screw ups. There is no point in the cartels protecting low level thugs with poor judgement or poor impulse control. There is more value in using them for PR and educational purposes.
I view them as in a symbiotic relationship. The government gives them cover, in return for a cut, to do their business and gives them guidance in order to keep the relationship going. The Cartel simply went to far and the government probably advised them to ante up somebody who could take the fall.
I don’t believe the Cartels acted on their own accord on turning over the supposed perps.
They dont. They’re sacrificial offerings of people they had already targeted as questionable and would probably kill on their own.
I think the cartels are the controlling partner in the relationship. Their government flunkies do as they’re told or they get replaced.
The cartels might protrct a trusted lieutenant, but a trusted lieutenant doesn’t screw up like this. Occam’s Razor, the actual srew ups were turned over as an object lesson to other foot soldiers and as a PR gesture to the Biden regime with whom they wish to continue doing business.
You could be correct. I have no idea as to how the relationship works exactly, other than that they are working together.
not cartels - heads of state.
Cabo is the playground for the rich and famous. American royalty spends thousands of dollars there and the cartels get their cut. It is about business.
That was my fist take also.
Someone here mentioned she wanted some cosmetic surgery done
and it was cheaper down there. Some of the guys went along
for safety concerns.
The rest is history.
So what. Bomb the hell out of everything related to the cartels.
Article from the Daily Mail states that the woman who couldn’t cross the border with them said that they told her they would only be gone 15 minutes. No one gets a tummy tuck in 15 minutes.
