When I hear fried chicken, collards, watermelon, yams, etc., I think SOUTHERN. I am not black but I am Southern, and I grew up eating all that food. Whatever the old racist food tropes may have been, they were stupid at the time (everybody ate the same food) and are long gone.

Dot not feather. Only the very bad hunters were vegetarian. Anyone who can take out a turkey with a bow and arrow isn’t a bad hunter...

Yes, unfortunately watermelon was used in offensive stereotyping of black people in times past, even though people of all races enjoy eating it.
I saw a tourist map of Florida, printed in the late 1950s. It had little pictures scattered around the map of people doing fun things. All of them featured white people except for one of two black children enjoying eating watermelon.

Why?
I find all of those food delicious.
Would an American of Finnish ancestry whine if they would served sautéed reindeer?
I don't think so.

With pepper vinegar? Probably not if it's too hot. I go more for the tomato based sauces with lots of spices, but not the mouth burning stuff.

Ain’t saying a word about the .45-70, a Grizzly, Montana, and two really nice people from Georgia. Could have landed in Federal Prison. I was guiding back then. Done a lot of weird things in my life. Nailing Rio Grande birds ain’t shit.

Don Cornelius, the guy who ran the television program Soul Train , would provide lunch for the dancers, as they were not paid for their appearances .The meal, every time, was fried chicken.
There are a series of short interviews of the dancers that performed over the years. available in YouTube
Once, some of the younger dancers complained about the repeat meals of fried chicken. The next session, the menu was baloney sandwiches. They asked that the chicken return.
