A cool $1 million is not what it used to be.
There are more millionaires in the U.S. and globally than ever before, with nearly 24.5 million millionaires nationwide as of 2022, according to the latest Global Wealth Report from the Credit Suisse Research Institute. Even so, having seven figures in the bank offers less security than it used to in the face of inflation and extreme market swings.
“That mark is easier to obtain but it may not deliver what we expect,” said Dave Goodsell, executive director of the Natixis Center for Investor Insight.
These days, fewer Americans, including millionaires, feel confident about their financial standing.

It will be $3500($40k) + $2500 Social Security+ $2500 pension + $1300 wife SS + $600 other pensions. Basically about $10k a month in retirement. More than I make now.
The reason I would retire is they treat me like I am never going to do it. I am off work from now until January and they are still assigning me work that has to be done before January.
If you retire with a million-dollar savings, prudent investment policies say that you should take NO MORE than 4% per year in income from it, if it’s invested safely and wisely. That would give you $40,000 per year income. If the $million includes your home, that would drop to $30,000 or even less. Throwing in Social Security would bring that to about $50,000 a year.
That’s clearly not what most people would considered able to support a “millionaire’s” lifestyle.
So sad...While the whole country stands gawking. You’re right, and eventually those who think they’re high rolling insiders, will be caged or killed off by the hyper wealthy globalist.

Presently there is no cure. My lungs suffered irreparable damage and each subsequent bought damages them further.
This is a horrible disease where you die a slow death from oxygen deprivation. Pray I go quickly in my sleep. That is the best I can hope for.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. But in the famous words of Jimmy Valvano, “Don’t give up. Don’t ever, give up.” I’m not saying you have, just hoping you won’t.
My sister in law worked in an oil field office full of chemicals and developed emphysema, and was given 2 years to live, back 10 years ago now.
I also had someone working for me who spent many years on submarines breathing filthy air, who was only given a couple of years to live, and he’s now had both his lungs replaced, and he had nowhere near the resources you speak of.
Hang in there, and have faith that God can work miracles. If he’d prefer you in Heaven, let him make that decision, but do good works here on Earth for as long as you can, to make sure that’s where you end up. God Bless.
She will have to answer for that one day, but please do not make a bad decision yourself. I pray that you can find enjoyment in your work, or can find something else you prefer. Many people never retire, and most didn’t for centuries. In some cases continuing to work can even provide greater happiness in fellowship, and extend your life. God Bless.

It only takes a few years of higher than normal inflation. Especially near the start. Yo do a lot of damage to a retirement plan. But $5m is a very good start. Congrats to your friend and especially if they move to a lower cost, zero state income tax location.
