First lady Jill Biden appeared in an episode of Sesame Street that aired Thursday, helping the characters as they learn about jobs they can have.
The White House announced in February that Biden would tape episodes for the show and for “social impact and military family initiatives” for Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization responsible for producing the show.
In a clip, the first lady meets with Elmo, Abby and Tamir before the three of them go to school to learn about jobs. She tells Elmo that he can have more than one job if he wants, as she serves as both first lady and a teacher.

....it all began with the writers pitching a story that involved Joining Forces, the organization that Obama and Dr. Jill Biden founded to provide support for the families of service members.
“We’ve known about it for a while. It’s about to celebrate its fifth anniversary,” Glasberg tells E! News. “Whenever we can do a story that supports and explains the difficulties that our military families, we embrace it and we want people to understand. This was natural for us.”
Once the writers decided to spotlight the organization, they brought up the idea of asking the First Lady to appear—and thankfully, she said yes. “Initially, we wanted her to come to us and, understandably, for scheduling reasons that couldn’t happen,” Glasberg says. But all hope wasn’t lost—her people invited NCIS to her house, instead. You know, the White House.
We are the first film production outside of a news organization to film in the White House. The West Wing filmed outside, other shows have filmed outside, but we actually went in and had an extraordinary day filming this scene. She was just wonderful and welcoming and I can’t thank her enough for what she did for our crew. And then we did a couple of scenes outside the White House as well.”
Yes, it was as incredible a time as it sounds. “It was a special day for us,” he says. “And at the end of the day it’s all about this organization and the support of this organization and we’re happy to do it.”

Along with First Lady Michelle Obama, Biden has joined in, appearing on Parks & Recreation, Jeopardy and this year’s Academy Awards....
The placement of Biden’s heartfelt monologue about how cops need to do better as the lead-in to an episode of television that depicted the bruised and bloodied cadaver of a pretty young rape victim cast the show’s particular trickiness into relief.
The Vice-President appeared only at the top of the show, delivering a monologue about rape as the most heinous crime of all. “The greatest abuse of power is rape,” he intoned to a roomful of cops. “It takes a woman a long time to heal. When a victim isn’t believed, when she goes through the invasive process of having a rape kit put together, and then it’s stuck on the shelf somewhere, and then the rape kit is never, ever tested, we fail her.”
In a twist, it turned out he was there to announce the cops of the Special Victims Unit had not failed, and in fact their working through the backlog of rape kits had led to the exoneration of an innocent man, jailed 16 years for rape.
Once Biden, having delivered his appreciation of Olivia Benson and her colleagues, leaves the scene, the plot wends forward in that lurching Law & Order way.
It turns out the innocent man the SVU freed went on to rape and kill the daughter of the woman who’d wrongfully accused him 16 years prior; he wasn’t guilty then, but he certainly is now.
