The latest NYS test results show scores lagging in the Schenectady City School District, as students and educators work to fight against the pandemic's impact on learning.
Every eighth grader failed the standardized NYS math test. There's also concern about inequity in the scores when you look at specific groups. Compared to the statewide average of 41%, just 12% of Schenectady's third-eighth grade students passed the state math test, and only around 4% of Black students did. Roughly 5.5% of Hispanic or Latino students.
In English Language Arts (ELA), the district did slightly better, with 21% passing compared to the state average of 47%. In science, 71% of fourth and eighth graders passed, with just 39% passing in Schenectady.
The scores certainly show that the learning loss can apparently compound, especially with zero eighth graders passing math. As students head into high school and try to get into college, it could also be part of the reasons why we also just saw the lowest scores in 30 years on the ACT:

Deep Blue Schenectady, totally woke leftist democrats and certainly a lazy staff of teachers. The city is struggling and will continue to struggle due to inept Democrat leadership. This is why vouchers are needed, to help the Blue city kids escape poverty.
These tests are EASY, and are simply trying to prove that the kids are at least getting the most BASIC of instruction.
This kind of test should never be failed EVER.
Parents should be suing.

I have a friend in Taiwan that just started his daughter in kindergarten. She and her classmates are 3 years old. Let that sink in.
Jeez…. Did they send the top half of the bell curve of their students off to the gas chambers. Or did all the above average parents take their children and move to Florida?

While Schenectady is a obvious low point in schooling, the state as a whole seems to have educational issues.
Can the kids even win at Schenect the dots?
I bet they are good at kilos, and pounds.
Do away with the test. Simple.
But keep on throwing $25,000 at each one of the students.
Destined to be homeless, druggies, drug dealers, dependents or live at home forever with absolutely no life skills.

Why do they need to be good at math? We always need a lot of men to do hard, physical labor, or skills such as plumbing, carpentry and masonry. Did they test the kids for that? Of course not. Because only in America are we totally obsessed with “academics.”
Just add points to the score of all black and hispanic students. Call them equity points or diversity points or reparation points, problem solved!
A friend who was from Rochester NY told me that teachers there make 90,000 a year in that city. They have a really powerful union. This was back in the early 90s.
