The news ahead is so dire, we had to cram it into a single article.
#1. Statewide gun sales stop.
The newly passed Measure 114 requires a new complicated process to obtain a firearm that goes way beyond the two different processes of current backgroudn checks and Concealed License Permits. The Democrat Herald’s Hasso Herring explains,
“Unless a court intervenes before Measure 114 takes effect on Dec. 8, it looks like after that date private citizens will no longer be allowed to buy a firearm in Oregon for a good long while. But the promoters of the initiative didn’t mention that. The measure was sold as a “common sense” safety law. It requires a police permit before you can buy a firearm, and to get a permit you have to prove you know how to use a gun. What’s wrong with that?Well, the law also says that to get a permit to buy a gun, you have to prove completion of a firearms training course that is “offered by law enforcement, a community college, or a private or public institution or organization or firearms training school utilizing instructors certified by a law enforcement agency…”Local police and sheriffs do not “certify” instructors for the general public. Nor do they offer public firearms training. Linn-Benton Community College doesn’t offer such training either. Maybe some private gun ranges or self-defense instructors do, but they are not “certified by a law enforcement agency.”The State Police say they are working on administrative rules to carry out the new statute. But whenever the rules are adopted, they presumably can’t change the plain wording of the law.”
#2. Multnomah County’s flavor ban to wipe out countless small businesses.
Could you imagine government banning a grocery store from offering flavored drinks or a liquor store from banning flavored liquor?

Even the expanded statement contains troubling language:
A person charged with the crime of possession of a large capacity magazine can raise an affirmative defense if they can prove they owned the large capacity magazine before the measure took effect and the magazine was either on property owned by the person....
Burden if proof should reside with the State.
I agree that "provide" was the wrong word to use. The 2A states: "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." James Madison, who proposed the 2A, and all those who ratified the Constitution, understood that all the 'rights' in the document come from God - as articulated in the Declaration of Independence.
See post 42.
“Gun sales are going up soon in nearby states.”
Not to Oregon residents.
>> Is that what you are going to do when the entire country becomes OREGON? Run away?
I sympathize. It must be heartbreaking to watch the state you love go over to the hands of the Californicators and other marxists. Good on you for standing fast.
What did the early Americans do when British oppression became too much to bear?
Thanx
Until elections are honest here, and in the whole country, everything is going to go to hell very fast.
Voters? You think it was actually an honest vote? OR is like CA and WA and many other states - massive election fraud.
If you knew someone there....
Could be worse; could be raining.
In Oregon, we WANT rain. Dry couple of years. More dry fuel to burn in mismanaged BLM forestland.
It is raining, here. ( Coos Bay)
Fortunate, you’re on the coast. We’ve had sprinkles and a bit o rain but not enough. Hopefully the storm coming in will do it and stuff the mountains with snow.
It should. We did have a very nice (dry) stretch through October and most of December. I’m doing a lot of walking.through the woods on old logging roads...slick clay is no fun.
Black Market Smugglers!
They will just ignore the court and pass bunch of other restrictions that the citizens can't afford to challenge. Notice how easy it is to get a gun and permit to carry in New York since the Supremes ruled they have to let you carry?
“Oregon needs IQ tests for voting. Under 100, nope. That would really fix this anti-constutional problem”
Lol,
You don’t live in Oregon, its the opposite.
It should be: “Let the lower IQ types vote because they like firearms and ban the higher IQ types because they’re anti 2nd Amendment.”
“Gun sales quadrupled in Oregon on passage of Measure 114. I’m not sure how long the backlog is for NICS approval.”
gundog,
All my 2nd Amendment buddies in Yamhill County are laughing at this “law.”
We have a lot of guns, magazines, scopes, ammo, etc & aren’t in the least bit worried.
We care deeply, there’s lots of Freepers who live in Oregon who will no longer be able to buy a gun after December 8, nor carry guns like the Glock 19 as their mag capacity is too large!
The high-cap mag ban will affect them. If they carry a Smith 6906, which ONLY has high-cap mags, that gun immediately becomes illegal to carry.
Same as a Shield or Glock with high-cap mags. If you’re pulled over for a ticket and the cop finds high-cap mags in your handgun, he can seize them in the spot and arrest you!
I’m in JoCo and most people I know have tons of guns and mags, but the high-cap mag ban will impact a LOT of Oregonians.
