Today on this Veterans Day, I pray that all Americans will set aside our differences to honor those men and women whose sacrifices have allowed us to live in freedom.
Thirty years ago, I arrived at the United States Military Academy at West Point as a cadet with amazing young men and women from around the country. Throughout my time at West Point and then the U.S. Army, I served with people of every faith, race, social-economic class, and creed. They were literally from all walks of life in America, but they shared something in common: a love and respect for their country, and a willingness to risk sacrificing all they had to keep it safe.
One memory from my service, in particular, stands out clearly in my mind. I was a young second lieutenant, fresh off basic training, reporting to Germany for my first assignment. I was assigned to Bravo Troop, First Squadron, 7th Armored Cavalry Regiment. Despite having done well at West Point and having just gone through all the necessary training, it was safe to say I really didn’t know what I was doing. My sergeant, first class, a non-commissioned officer who had served for well over a decade, soon set me straight. After saluting me (I was, after all, the higher-ranking officer) he said:
"Lieutenant, you’ll do really well if you just shut up for a while."
It was my first real lesson as an officer, and it was the best piece of advice I could have gotten. In time, I learned a great deal from him, as well as from all the men with whom I had the privilege to serve, simply by listening.

Is it just me that thinks this country is being set up to lose in a coming orchestrated military conflict? What this Jobama’s military command is doing is pure insanity!!
At north of 65, I can look back on my life and say without hesitation that my 2 years active duty and 7 years overall reserve duty were, besides my 2 children and 3 grandchildren, the highlight of my life that I am so thankful for today.
That said, I guarantee I would have told my CO that he could put me in the brig but I am not sitting in a CRT class!
We are the same age and my thoughts are the same. My 4 1/2 years of active duty were the defining years of my life. I was raised in a good family but in bad neighborhoods. I realized pretty quickly when I came back that I didn’t want to be trapped in the same old place. It changed the trajectory of my life. I’m very proud to have served and done my small part for my country.
Our military is dead. Don’t join.

This Marine Corps vet will tell those who want to thank me for my service that the best way to do so is NOT vote for democrats or war-mongering RINOs.
Like others have posted, I am hard pressed to recall any time in my post-college life that was as consequential as my 8+ years on active duty. I just landed in a great spot for my “last rodeo”, as a tax accountant at a large real estate company. Great leadership and incredible work atmosphere.
In good conscience, I cannot recommend any young person joining today’s military. The Courtney Massengales have run off the Sam Damons.
If you can be all 52 genders at the same time you are sure to be a General in Joe’s military.
The 11 years I served still stands out as the best thing I have done with my life. Some days I wish I was back on the flight deck even as I push 73.

Let us remember it is Veteran’s Day... not Memorial Day. There’s a difference.
Yes, that's a shame. While I believe Memorial Day to be more important, too many Americans now see it as another reason to BBQ. We have lost our way.
