‘Federal Assault Weapons Licensing Act’ Introduced

This week, Congressman Chris Jacobs (R-NY) introduced the “Federal Assault Weapons Licensing Act,” a bill that would establish a licensing system for prospective purchasers of modern sporting rifles (MSR).
Per the legislation, one would need to take a mandatory safety course, pass an FBI background check, submit fingerprints and provide proof of identity as part of the licensing process.
The license would need to be renewed every five years.
Anyone who already owns an MSR would be grandfathered in, however, if they wanted to buy an additional MSR they would need a license.
“My legislation is common sense and provides a straightforward licensing process to ensure those who are purchasing and taking ownership of assault weapons are responsible, law-abiding Americans,” Jacobs said in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.

How about being forced to obtain a license every time a reporter writes an article?
The Second Amendment is NOT a second tier right. Hell, even the screaming gay leftist George Takei inadvertently saw the value of an armed populace.

Obligatory “Shall not be infringed” comment.
Also, ANY time gun control laws are not inclusive of handguns, you know the agenda is to give government tyrants more safety from the populace, and nothing else.
I have very very rarely seen any politician in favor of gun control try to go after handguns, which are used in the vast majority of gun-related homicides and suicides.

"Jacobs is not seeking reelection in 2022, after receiving what Politico described as "rising backlash" from Republicans for supporting some gun control measures following the 2022 Buffalo shooting and the Robb Elementary School shooting"
It seems like the voters in his district already expressed their opinions about him and he is "retiring".
