Billionaire heiress 'kidnapper', who was released from 20-year sentence in 2020 for abducting lawyer, 'cleaned inside of his car and washed clothes in sink before arrest': Suspect refuses to tell cops where missing kindergarten teacher is

The man accused of kidnapping billionaire heiress Eliza Fletcher was recently released from prison after serving a 20-year sentence for a similar crime.

Cleotha Abston, 38, was arrested and convicted in 2000 for the kidnapping of Memphis attorney Kemper Durand.

At around 2am May 25, 2000, Abston approached Durand from behind on Beale Street in Memphis then robbed him and forced him into the trunk of his car, according to the Memphis Flyer.

Abston then drove Durand around for several hours, then forced him into an ATM and demanded he draw out cash. While in the ATM Durand spotted a housing authority officer and yelled for help, causing Abston to flee.

Abston was convicted for that kidnapping and released from prison in July of 2020, according to Tennessee Department of Corrections, The US Sun reported.

On Sunday Abston was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence following Fletcher's Friday disappearance.

In addition to surveillance footage which showed the entirety of the 'violent' abduction in which Fletcher was forced into a black SUV with a broken taillight, an affidavit showed cops identified Abston as the kidnapper by a pair of sandals he left behind at the scene. *** Investigators also determined Abston's cell was in the vicinity of the kidnapping at the time Fletcher was taken. *** Abston still has not said where Fletcher is or what he did to her. The affidavit said evidence, including blood, found in Abston's car led them to believe Fletcher suffered a 'serious injury.'

She’s gone.

My guess is that he was too drugged out to remember where he left her. Best hope is if she had a cell phone on her, so they can track her movements.

Do they have their ear buds in, listening to music or whatever? Just curious. Bad, bad thing to do ... you can’t hear anyone coming up on you. Most people, from what I’ve observed, jog while listening to something.

The article. Even with two authors, they cannot seem to convey anything coherently.

Allow me to torture him until he tells where the body is.

I’ve never tortured anyone before but I believe I’d be good at it.

In reference to the "Most dangerous" cities list, shown on post 17.

Their methodology is terrible.

They rate murder the same as burglary; rape the same as larceny, robbery the same as car theft (not carjacking).

Not only that, they do not look at rates of crime. They only look at the national ranking as determined by FBI statistics.

So, you could have cities with an actual higher murder, rape and robbery rate score lower in the list than those which have slightly higher burglary, car theft and larceny rates.

That is how they show Baltimore, Md. as safer than Albuquerque N.M.

Baltimore has high murder and robbery rates, but their car theft, larceny, and rape rates are a little lower than Albuquerque's.

It looks designed to make smaller cities look more dangerous, because much of the violence in larger cities is confined to smaller areas in those cities.

Terrible methodology. There is no weighting of the crimes.

A much simpler method would be to look only at murder rates, as they are the best reported, and rank by rate only, not by FBI ranking.

I looked at their data for 2017, on their web site.

To give an example of how skewed this method is, Chattanooga, TN, was number four on their list; but there are eight cities with higher violent crime rates which do not even make the top ten.

Her cell phone was found at the scene of the kidnapping.

See post 37 for some personal info on her - there’s a probable reason for her running.

Exactly. It was a crime of opportunity and he found the easiest of targets jogging alone at 4:30 AM in the morning. It would be nice if we lived in a society where it was safe to do this and in many areas it is, but not in an urban center like Memphis.
