I lived in Alaska for 25 years and the smaller the town, the friendlier the people were. "Howdy", Good Morning", "How's it going" are quite common.
Downtown Anchorage and Fairbanks are also pleasant. Downtown Seattle, not so much anymore.

I lived in Alaska for 25 years

I've been here (Petersburg, AK) for 10 years.

After 30 years in Honolulu I retired and we sailed away. We did a couple of laps around the Pacific then sailed up to Alaska from Nawiliwili after one last visit.

The difference is startling and I am not talking about the weather.

Population density on Oahu and Maui and the "Californication" of the whole state has made "Aloha" a sad joke. You will find more of it on Mitkof island in Alaska than you will in Hawaii.
