Liz Cheney for Attorney General
The Wall Street Journal ^ | Aug. 23, 202 | Peter Shinkle

Posted on 08/24/2022 2:31:21 PM PDT by Trump20162020

Now that Rep. Liz Cheney has lost her primary to a Trumpist Republican in Wyoming, it’s time for President Biden to consider appointing her to his cabinet. Political tensions have risen to new levels since the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Aug. 8 search of Mar-a-Lago. Bringing a Republican into the administration would cool partisan temperatures and unite the country in support of the rule of law.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt used this strategy when the U.S. divided sharply over how to respond to Hitler’s aggression. In June 1940, he appointed Henry Stimson and Frank Knox as secretaries of war and the Navy, respectively—demonstrating that stalwart Republicans would cross political lines to support FDR’s policy of aiding European democracies under threat of Nazi invasion. Republican leaders were enraged. But before long, the two appointees helped forge bipartisan congressional support for the president and worked with him to lead the allied forces to victory.

FDR’s decision was bold, especially given that it came a few months before a hotly contested presidential election. If partisan sentiments had prevailed, he could have lost the White House. Yet he put country over party and won re-election in November 1940.

Really? Okay. How about Trey Gowdy? Or maybe Ted Cruz? No, not Ted. Biden can appoint him to SCOTUS once someone retires. Or Cristy Cream?

Unless Garland resigns before the new congess is there the only votes she will get will be Romney and Murkowski if she wins. If the GOP gets 53 seats that idea will go nowhere

FDR was ideologically to the left, but he wasn’t partisan - he would work with Republicans. Truman was ideologically much farther to the right, but he was highly partisan. FDR tapped Republican Wild Bill Donovan to start the OSS, band Truman disbanded the OSS, which led to the CIA.

What does “Trumpist” mean?

Trump isn’t particularly ideological.

Does the writer mean conservative?

The GOP will be lucky to retake the Senate.

“Bringing a Republican into the administration would cool partisan temperatures and unite the country in support of the rule of law”.
What planet do these people live on? Cool partisan temperatures and unite the country just by bringing a republican (in this case a well known RINO) on board? HA HA HA HA HA!

Yes, that’s the way to cool things down, bring a Trump Derangement Syndrome posterchild into the cabinet and appoint her as AG so that she can continue her campaign against Trump. What could go wrong?
