On Wednesday’s broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) responded to people who are concerned about being audited due to increased funding for the IRS in the Inflation Reduction Act reconciliation bill by stating that “if people are honest about their taxes, this won’t be an issue.”
Co-host asked, “When you think about the IRS…there’s a lot of commotion, a lot of talking points around the fact that 87,000 employees — 87,000 people will be working at the IRS and what that means for your chance of — not just your chance of getting audited, but the cost of getting audited for people who are either running small businesses or for individuals who can’t afford it. What do you tell them?”

I always pay my taxes. Why does that require 87,000 additional IRS agents?!
The US Tax Code is over 70,000 pages, it is unmanageable and subject to interpretation. So if your interpretation disagrees with the IRS they are coming for you.
And that was before Covid.
This Democrat POS needs to shut her piehole.
Obviously never had to pay an accountant to represent them. It is expensive.
Read the job description for new irs agents. Doesn’t sound like they’re looking for pencil pushers to me.

What a POS. The message is Give us more of your money and the rich and powerful don’t have to worry about being audited. And, if you disagree with us, the IRS is coming after you, thank you Lois Learner.
My finances are very simple, but I still use a CPA. It’s worth it not having deal with the IRS.
Fixed it.
Well we have recent cause not to believe a word of that.
During Obama’s term in office, Conservative citizens and
business owners were audited rather frequently.
Scum!
Here’s hoping she finds out the error in her assumptions the hard way.
Whatever. There is zero reason for this crap. Zero.
If you’ve done nothing wrong, then you have nothing to worry about.
I still say it’s because of eBay and other places like that. For many years a seller on eBay or flea markets or yard sales was safe from an audit if they didn’t have 200 or more sales and/or $20,000.00 in sales. That all changed on January 1,2022. Now if you have $600.00 or more of sales you will get a 1099 and so will the IRS. MANY people will be caught flat footed with that and the IRS will come after them.
We’ll see pretty soon.
Next, they’ll be demanding to search your property at any time without any warrant, on the grounds that if you’ve nothing to hide you will have nothing to worry about.
With many thousands of pages of tax code practically anyone can be non compliant.
They are coming after the middle class. They know “the rich “ don’t have enough money to feed their insatiable maw. They need our money too.
