There is no 2nd amendment in Britain, and they are “subjects” rather than “citizens”.
In terms of the US, there are lessons from Spain in 1936 as to how this could play out; most of the police forces in rural areas (Civil Guard) supported the “law and order” military revolt while most of the police forces in urban areas (Assault Guards) supported the leftist government-sponsored property seizures, church burnings, and executions of middle- and upper-class Spaniards as well as religious.

The police are neither your friend or your enemy. They serve those in power so that they maintain their hegemony.
These days, the 'elites' are your enemy. Train appropriately.
