Is Russia worthy of being called a “great power,” let alone a superpower? Not to kick someone when they’re down, but it’s difficult to argue that Vladimir Putin represents anything other than a middling regional state, albeit the largest country in the world and one with nuclear weapons.
In the first place, until the Russo-Ukraine War, consider how irrelevant and inconsequential Russia was. For the most part, regarding international relations, Russia scarcely mattered. Moscow has nary a footprint in the Middle East (mainly Syria) and is nonexistent in Asia and other parts of the world. Russia has lost influence in India, Venezuela, Africa, and even North Korea.
Russia is barely a developed country. The most generous economic data gave the country a GDP of around $4.4 trillion in 2020, putting it behind Canada and South Korea, and barely ahead of Brazil and Mexico....

What is your evidence of that? A couple of weeks ago I watched a couple of youtube videos of somebody going through a grocery store in Russia to show what prices were nowadays. To me, it looked like any grocery store I've been in lately. Well stocked, plenty of variety.

Good comment. And Pax Americana differed from Pax Romana and Pax Britannica in that we weren’t out for conquest (at least not much).
Our undoing will be our arrogance. We simply must be a major player everywhere, all the time. And when we say “jump”, we expect everyone else to immediately jump as high as they can. Sooner or later the rest of the world is going to get tired of that.
Most of the independent military analysts I read have agreed that currently Russia would defeat the United States in a land war. Russia is clearly on the ascendency and we are now clearly...uh...
Their economy is self sufficient to a greater degree that almost any other country. They, unlike their Western adversaries, have very minimal government debt.
Their population is more satisfied with their government than their competitors’ populations are with theirs.
And their government is intelligent, competent, articulate, serious, dignified. I’d trade ours for theirs any day “and twice on Sunday.
Size does count.
How much damage they can dish out and how much they can take matters.
California has the highest gross domestic product among U.S. states. Vermont has the lowest. Russia’s GDP would rank fourth, behind New York and ahead of Florida. Ukraine would rank 31st.Mar 4, 2022.

National will is also a part of power. North Vietnam was not a great power by GDP measurement, yet they won because they stuck it out longer than we did.

A land war WHERE? That makes all the difference in the world. So, WHERE?
I think you should add “how much damage are you willing to take” to the statement you posted. When wars are fought there’s damage to both sides. Even a small country like Israel can inflict a lot damage. You may get them but at what cost? All this IMO.
Not so. GDP figures are based on the inflation adjusted net value of economic activity, not on the money supply.

To be fair, there’s Nominal and Real GDP. But you can beef up GDP by defining what you will count as economic activity and what you will not.
There is not any Military analyst that would agree that Russia would defeat the US/NATO in a nonnuclear conflict. The US would suffer casualties, the Russians would suffer defeat. The US/NATO air supremacy would ensure the destruction of the Russian military.
