Consider This Your Sign To Start Homeschooling Your Kids
The Federalist ^ | July 05, 2022 | Jessica Marie Baumgartner

I write education news for a living. My job, every day, is to report on what’s happening in education. I have great respect for teachers in all settings but have been a homeschooling mother for more than 10 years now, and what I’ve researched and written on recently is horrifying.

The public school system is a mess. Hardly anyone wants to be a teacher anymore, and with good reason. Too many educators in the system have little to no respect for parental rights and believe they are above the law.

Most recently I reported on a gym teacher who allegedly sexually abused 7- and 8-year-old girls for three years. This occurred between 2015 and 2018, but he is just now finally being brought to justice. I wish this were a rarity, but unfortunately 1 in 10 schoolchildren will be subject to sexual misconduct at the hands of a teacher or school staff member.

As if that weren’t enough to drive parents to seek alternative options, the Biden administration is rewarding schools for pushing identity politics in the classroom. Government grants are now being offered to schools that push “equity” ideologies into classrooms.

Gone are the days when working hard made the grade. Now schools across the nation are grading students based on what they look like instead of the content of their work. In addition, some districts will offer harsher punishments for white students who break the rules than non-white students as part of “culturally responsive discipline” (one rebranded form of critical race theory), which teaches students and educators that minorities aren’t smart enough to follow the rules.

I don’t know how any parent...especially a conservative Christian parent ...could even consider sending their kids to public schools.

Tattooed “teachers” who look like the July 4th sniper.

Heard on a conservative talk radio program this morning that only 10% of teachers would encourage a young person to choose teaching as a career.

Pathetic.

M-O-N-E-Y.

Some parents aren’t qualified, we’ve been under the public school influence for 70 years, others think they aren’t qualified. Meanwhile another whole generation of kids get screwed and the parents pay a premium for nothing.

I suspect that many parents don't want to send their kids to public schools, but would have to make substantial changes in income and lifestyle to homeschool. The more outrageous the public schools become, the more people who will be willing to make those adjustments.

My father-in-law was an excellent teacher. But he retired early because he couldn’t deal with the nonsense anymore - and that was more than 15 years ago, in a small mostly rural area where you’d think things were better.

Because you are no longer expected to just teach your specific field of study; you are expected to be a therapist, babysitter, parole officer, and social worker.

You can expect disrespectful behavior daily. In some districts, you can expect violence daily. Parents are either not engaged or constantly looking for offense.

I saw the writing on the wall 30 years ago and moved into the private sector. I found other ways to teach outside of the public school setting.

Until parents start taking power back, insisting that their kids act civilized, and demanding that schools only teach and not endoctrinate, nothing will change.

A lot of people don’t have the financial means to send their kids to a private school. Christian or not. Not everyone is able to just quit their job or jobs to teach their kids and most don’t have the ability to pass a state test and deal with all the other obstacles that are put in their way.

It’s called making sacrifices, and, finding a way to make it happen. Joining with others in your area, etc.

This article is about homeschooling, not private school, btw.

Not qualified how? I had no idea how to teach reading and baby math, but I figured it out, AS CAN ANYONE ELSE. There are many curricula that take you through teaching any subject step by step. So, even if a parent is marginally literate, which is the average for government school teachers, you can figure it out. Of course, I didn’t teach high level subjects like “gender studies” and “queer pronouns”, but, despite this deficiency, two of my sons are Ph.D. candidates in hard science/engineering and the third is doing bioengineering entering his junior year.

Do you think first time parents are “unqualified”? After all, they have no experience. How could they possibly figure out what to do with something as delicate and complicated as a baby?

ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO CAN HOMESCHOOL. THERE ARE NO EXCUSES (Don’t give me the single mom/both parents work BS. I know plenty in both categories who do or have homeschooled.)

Oh, yeah, your suburban and rural schools are not ‘different’. The teachers are all trained in the same university cesspool, the textbooks (if any are used) and curricula are controlled by the state, overall standards are controlled by the state, and the same woketard laws and judicial decisions apply to your government child abuse centers, too.

Older kid graduated with honors from a state university and wanted to be a history teacher. She got a peek behind the curtain while in the credential program and bolted as fast as she could. Our education system is rotten to the core.

Nothing will change until government education is fully exposed as the child abuse that it is, and that fact is finally accepted by the population. True change will come when the government school system is shut down. There are NO good government schools.

True, but the warning signals have been out there a long
time. If they still haven’t escaped the public schools,
their kids are right now in serious jeopardy.

The little White boys in particular.

I can’t imagine the damage done to these kid’s egos to
have to sit there and basically admit they are worthless
to this nation’s future.
