Russia plans Severodonetsk plant evacuation as it bids to encircle city

Russia said Tuesday it would establish a humanitarian corridor to evacuate civilians from a chemical plant in Severodonetsk, as the two sides battled for control of the key city in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region.

Russian forces have stepped up efforts to cut off the Ukrainian troops still in the industrial hub, destroying all three bridges which connect it across a river to Lysychansk.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky meanwhile once again appealed for heavy weapons from the West, criticising the "restrained behaviour" of some European leaders.

Moscow has for weeks targeted the twin cities as the last areas in the Lugansk region of the Donbas still under Ukrainian control.

Communication with the city was "complicated" with the situation on the ground changing every hour, the head of Severodonetsk's administration, Oleksandr Stryuk, told Ukrainian television.

Around 500 civilians were taking shelter under "heavy fire" in the Azot chemical plant in Severodonetsk, Stryuk said.

Russia offer a humanitarian evac for any civilians before the final assault.

Will Ukraine take them up on it?

Or, are those civilians hostages?

Jump in here at 14 minutes and watch to 20 minutes.

Many “foreign volunteers” including Americans are trapped in the Severodonetsk chemical plant, totally cut off. It’s estimated 1/4 or 600 foreigners out of 2,500 are trapped. They can be facing the death penalty. This will be major, when the Americans surrender.

Also: the chemical plant is a “hostage” in that the UAF defenders can explode it to create a “chemical dirty bomb” to affect/pollute/damage the people of Donetsk.

Very interesting conundrum. Some parallels to the Mariupol steel plant, but that plant did not have a “chemical warfare” aspect.

The humanitarian corridor day was today (Wednesday).
The Russians claim the Ukrainian government didn’t cooperate with the corridor today, I guess they will try again.

“‘Humanitarian evac’ to exile in Siberia, how humane...”

An accusation not in evidence.

Combatants go to POW camps from hell.

Actual civilians are eventually transported to Ukrainian authorities.

“Many “foreign volunteers” including Americans are trapped in the Severodonetsk chemical plant,”

How many are US Special Forces/Green Berets trainers and advisors?

I”m assuming there are dozens.

“Ukrainian government didn’t cooperate with the corridor today”

Of course not.

They will not give up those hostages and human shields because they know Russia would then pour 100,000 gallons of diesel into the the tunnels under the plant and light it.

Who knows the real number, but read it is 2500 troops trapped there. Which I don’t doubt too much because it was 2,000 in Mariupol. What is it with Ukraine’s refusal to engage in a tactical retreat. Sometimes it’s over, gotta pullback and regroup.

They already have two Americans captured in Kharikov

Rybar
forwarded from
RT in Russian
Two mercenaries from the United States are taken prisoner by Russian troops near Kharkov.

According to The Telegraph, 39-year-old Alexander Druke and former Marine 27-year-old Andy Hyun served as volunteers in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They are considered the first Americans captured during a special operation.

“We were fulfilling our mission, but everything went completely wrong. We were told that the city was free. But it turned out that the Russians were already storming it, ”a colleague of the captured mercenaries confirmed the information to the publication.

The author of the article fears that Moscow may use the captured Americans as evidence that the United States is directly involved in the military conflict.

This sounds like a replay of Mariupol. Once Russia secures this area I suspect they will move on Odessa. Giving more armament to Ukraine might be a defacto gift to Russia in the long run.

“What is it with Ukraine’s refusal to engage in a tactical retreat. Sometimes it’s over, gotta pullback and regroup.“

I have wondered the same thing, its almost as if every one of their armies are the 6th army to them.

Either those running the tactical operations are abject fools, or they are not allowed to do the prudent thing. I have heard more than one rumor where commanders have asked to fall back and were told no.

Panzer battalions with special SS units encircled, evacuated, the processed many, many good families in Poland and Ukraine.

Funny they don’t see the irony here.

The war is not for a win, but to deny Russia gains in form of territory and manpower. Hence the scorched Earth policy of destroying everything, including civilians and own military.

In fact most of them are free to go everywhere, but mostly they come to mainland Russia where the subsidized rent for them exists and employers rewarded for hiring them. The stories of new gulag are Ukrainian propaganda to negotiate the fact that the refugees are mostly escaping towards the “enemy”.
The official figures of about a million “kidnapped” by Russia vs many millions escaped to Europe are misleading in a sense that people coming to Russia are indeed from the war zone, the people coming to Europe are economic migrants from unaffected areas, using war in other areas for excuse.
