Growing food shortages may represent the same health threat to the world as the COVID-19 pandemic, a leading global health figure has warned.
Rising food and energy prices, in part sparked by the war in Ukraine, could kill millions both directly and indirectly, Peter Sands, the executive director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday (Jun 7).
"Food shortages work in two ways. One is you have the tragedy of people actually starving to death. But second is you have the fact that often much larger numbers of people are poorly nourished, and that makes them more vulnerable to existing diseases," he said.

The stores are just beginning to look low on stock in poorer areas. Some of that is because not as much would be ordered to stock up with when people can’t afford the prices.

I used to deliver snacks in ghetto Cincinnati during Bush II. One Saturday morning the EBT system unexpectedly shut down. I made two additional stops and was frightened into quitting for the day. From the get go it was Bush and the man. It would get very ugly, very quickly if those magic cards stopped working. It would be Crazy Joe’s fault regardless of what Jim Clyburn said.
Don’t think the EBT crowd would blame the Dems and Brandon. They would say it’s the fat cat Repubs’ fault and would be playing the knockout game when WhtT comes out of the grocery store. They will never get just where the source of their misery truly lies.
