Australian voters deliver strong message on climate, ending conservative government's 9-year rule

Australian voters have delivered a sharp rebuke to the center-right government, ending nine years of conservative rule, in favor of the center-left opposition that promised stronger action on climate change.

Australian Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese appeared certain to form a minority government, though it was unclear as counting continued if the party would have enough seats for a majority, according to projections from three news networks.

Parties need a majority of 76 seats to form a majority government. Labor is currently sitting on around 70, according to the Australian Electoral Commission. Early counting showed a strong swing towards Greens candidates and Independents who demanded emissions cuts far above the commitments made by Morrison's coalition.

Amanda McKenzie, CEO of the research group the Climate Council, declared climate action the winner of the vote. "Millions of Australians have put climate first. Now, it's time for a radical reset on how this great nation of ours acts upon the climate challenge," she said in a statement.

Our voting system is rock solid. No chicanery at the ballot box. As for the stupidity. Well, every country has it’s share of that

Jokes on them, the US is going full blown right-wing fascist in 2024 and any minor improvements they make to the overall environment we will erase by 10 fold

Along with India and China it’s pretty hopeless

Also I’m guessing it’s all the wildfires there

The thing that gets me is that Australia is already knee-deep in "green" energy, and to a fault.

I've had solar panels on my home with batteries for a year and I like them so much that I'm increasing it and getting an EV. It works great for my wife and me in our situation and I put nothing onto the grid -- I'm simply not part of power generating process for the rest of the state. I just buy less power (meaning, the bureaucrats control my budget less now that I have no natural gas bill and my power bill is tiny).

But that's not how most homes in Australia are. They have tons of homes with solar and virtually all of them tie into the grid and produce power. The end result is their grid has become intermittent -- the utilities were told to scale back on fossil fueled power because it was no longer needed --- until it is. Australia has been experiencing 3rd world power situations like California. If your solar home puts power to the grid, then it has to power off whenever grid power is down (to keep from electrocuting linemen working on the grid). It's hard to imagine anyone voting for more of the same.

Sorry but Australia just finished themselves off.

Now the mass migration begins.

There is no going back.

A country wealthy in so many things and always fiscally in the black has just surrendered to the powers of darkness.

If I remember my history the state of Georgia(back then a colony) was started as penal colony.

I live here and I’m disheartened this morning but not suprised. The Liberals thought some of their safest seats would always be so, but they have morphed into greenie strongholds. But being philosophical I know things will swing back. And probably fairly quickly when the disconnect bewteen your average Labor voter and the poodle walking elitist leftie snobs in Sydney’s East and Melbourne’s south east occurs. It’s what sunk Labor last time they were in power federally

Right. I’m sure the vote had nothing to do with the idiocy involving the PANDEMIC over the past few years.

In other words, the incessant propaganda has had its desired effect. Facts no longer matter, it’s how the voters FEEEEEEEEL about things now.

Western society’s freedoms are doomed.

Methinks they kicked his *ss out due to COVID crap, not climate. It’s CNN - the Communist news network that no one believes - except the Commies (e.g., DemocRATs).
