Australian voters deliver strong message on climate, ending conservative government's 9-year rule

Australian voters have delivered a sharp rebuke to the center-right government, ending nine years of conservative rule, in favor of the center-left opposition that promised stronger action on climate change.

Australian Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese appeared certain to form a minority government, though it was unclear as counting continued if the party would have enough seats for a majority, according to projections from three news networks.

Parties need a majority of 76 seats to form a majority government. Labor is currently sitting on around 70, according to the Australian Electoral Commission. Early counting showed a strong swing towards Greens candidates and Independents who demanded emissions cuts far above the commitments made by Morrison's coalition.

Amanda McKenzie, CEO of the research group the Climate Council, declared climate action the winner of the vote. "Millions of Australians have put climate first. Now, it's time for a radical reset on how this great nation of ours acts upon the climate challenge," she said in a statement.

so, let’s see, the pro-growth side won the last three national elections, but that doesn’t count; only this one counts

The problem is that they went through with the stupid lockdowns.

“The draconian COVID 19 restrictions were the reason the government change”

Probably true but they have really screwed themselves. But even with the probable cheating they have a lot of idiot voters (just like us).

Mr Albanese, from the Australian Labor Party, has long supported the Republican movement. He was elected as Australia’s Prime Minister earlier today, replacing Scott Morrison. In 2018, he said the country should hold a national vote on becoming a Republic.

This is strange - just saw an article on a left-leaning source that was chastizing Australian voters for missing the boat on dealing with climate change... so what am I missing?

Democratic elections don't mean sh*t anymore when your choice is Uniparty (D) or Uniparty (R).

Populism, both left and right leaning, will be the future. Ballot boxes won't matter. Rioting in the street will.

Of course the joke's on the voters. As Australians are forced to commute to work on pogo sticks and go without A/C and water during their famous, and brutal, heat waves China will bring 25 coal fired power plants on line every week.So world pollution levels will stay the same...or worsen.

There’s the Left, and then there’s THE LEFT! Here, Nancy Pelosi and Barak Obama are the left. AOC is The Left. (Note the caps.) Then there are people who are really far to the left of ACO...THE LEFT...who want to kill half the world now because we’re all GONNA DIE in just 7.32 years. (Or pick a number. It changes every day.) Unless you know who is saying they missed the vote and have some of their other views for context then we can’t know what they meant by it. But the simple days when there was a left, middle and right are long gone. Elong Musk (God I’m tired of hearing about him.) shared a meme where the top line, labeled “then” had the left, me, and right on it equal distant from each other. Then the next line, which was labeled “Now,” the Left had moved WAY left and the middle and right were in the same position. THE LEFT (all caps) are lunatics. Dangerous lunatics. (Develop a virus to kill them all lunatics.)

exactly, bro

all incumbent parties are having problems due to the damned if you do, damned if you don’t lockdowns

fear really cuts short the rationale process

liberal and conservative often mean different things overseas. This was a pro covid lockdown government being thrown out and replaced by a pro republic government which seeks to remove the queen as head of state.

It has nothing to do with climate change or whatever BS is this trying to spin this as.

We are not really better off here in USA. We still have to deal with aging grid. Brown outs in California and Texas. Joe Biden killed Keystone XL pipeline and prevented further growth of oil production in USA.

Yes, how CNN does gloss over the whole covid police state thing.

Couldn’t have anything to do with that of course.

I would guess that current voting patterns are anti-establishment exiting the Covid debacle, intelligence and platforms be damned. Or, the majority of the voting base are now woke brain dead Marxists in which case we’re doomed.

More likely is massive cheating on the “down under” with the intent of convincing the general pop that they were simply “out voted”. The liberal left never accepts being outvoted while conservatives always accept what they are told to believe.

They’re not.

In England, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, etc...

“conservative” = “democrat”

“liberal = “progressive”

“social democrat” = “socialist”

“labor” = “communist”

All their major parties are tyrannical, big-government, nanny-state parties.

The few that aren’t are small, marginalized, and persecuted.
