~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina

NCseymourjohnson1

The 4th Fighter Wing is the host unit at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and accomplishes its training and operational missions with F-15E Strike Eagles. Two of the wing’s four fighter squadrons are operational units, capable of deploying worldwide on short notice and immediately generating combat power.

The other two squadrons are responsible for training all F-15E aircrews for the Air Force. The 916th Air Refueling Wing, a tenant unit at Seymour, is an Air Force Reserve Command Wing under the Air Mobility Command. It is assigned 10 KC-135R Stratotankers.

Throughout the 2000s until 2021, Seymour Johnson continued to support operations in Afghanistan and Iraq during OEF, OIF, and later Operation Inherent Resolve. In 2010 another Air Force Reserve unit, the 414th Fighter Group arrived at Seymour Johnson to help train aircrews and assist in maintaining the F-15 aircraft.

In 2021, base personnel from Seymour Johnson went to Holloman AFB, New Mexico, in support of Operation Allies Welcome, to provide a home for Afghan refugees. Today, Seymour Johnson continues to train and fly the F-15E and remains a premier air defense base for the United States.

The F-15E Strike Eagle is a dual-role fighter designed to perform air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. An array of avionics and electronics systems gives the F-15E the capability to fight at low altitude, day or night, and in all weather.

The aircraft uses two crew members, a pilot and a weapon systems officer. Previous models of the F-15 are assigned air-to-air roles; the "E" model is a dual-role fighter. It has the capability to fight its way to a target over long ranges, destroy enemy ground positions and fight its way out.

NCseymourjohnson4

The F-15's superior maneuverability and acceleration are achieved through its high engine thrust-to-weight ratio and low-wing loading. It was the first U.S. operational aircraft whose engines' thrust exceeded the plane's loaded weight, permitting it to accelerate even while in vertical climb. Low-wing loading (the ratio of aircraft weight to its wing area) is a vital factor in maneuverability and, combined with the high thrust-to-weight ratio, enables the aircraft to turn tightly without losing airspeed.

Must be a good movie. LOL

I’ve never felt 6% humidity and hope to never feel it. It’s gotten into the 20s or so once in a blue moon and that was horrible enough. It’s 65% here right now and that feels good. We didn’t get up to the mid 80s today as they’d predicted. Only got up to 79 and it was very pleasant when I headed out this afternoon.

Bummer they got your hopes up about rain tomorrow and now let you down. You’ll get some eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later.

No rain for us until the weekend and then chances are only 20%.

Yes, I went to get my eyes rechecked this afternoon. He Looked at the current glasses, at the new ones, and pulled up the ‘script on his computer and said the ‘script was incorrect. So the problem wasn’t with the lab all this time. They were making what had been sent to them. He made corrections and is going to try again with the new ‘script. Now I wait another three or four weeks for the new ones to come in.

That optician office sounds like the Keystone Kops. Sorry. I sure hope they get it right this time. I can only imagine how you’ll react if they don’t.....but I feel sorry for them. LOL!

79 is the perfect temperature. I’m glad you had that to enjoy. Hope you get more days like that.

That’s what it is here right now. I should go out and just sit and enjoy it. That’s the upside to the low humidity. After the sun goes down, it cools off to something bearable.

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this morning's thread.

How's everyone doing this morning?

He isn’t an optician. He’s an optometrist. He has an in-house optician though. I don’t know who screwed up the ‘script but he straightened it out .... I hope. It’s is the first time this has happened in the 30 years I’ve been going there.

The lab could still screw up on the first try. My ‘script is very difficult to make because it’s so complicated.

Today was a picture perfect day and it would be nice if we could have the same all week. At least they’ve backed off on the rest of the week’s high temps to just one day with 90 or above. The rest will be 80s.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Was it another toasty day over there yesterday? Probably didn’t slow Gizmo down at all. :-)

My hubby served here ‘71-‘74. Back when computers were room sized and required their own air conditioning system. Just this afternoon I was looking for his DD214 for him and found the letters he received when he was named Airman of the Quarter. They interviewed him on the radio and he was so nervous. We were so young. Loved going to the ocean.

I can never remember what they’re called. LOL! I just hope you don’t have to keep making that trip just to be disappointed. Dion d they totally reject your suggestion about remaking your current prescription?

Ooooo...I hope they’re wrong about that 90 degree day. You won’t like it any more than I do. Ugh.

Optometrists are the doctors who check your eyes. Opticians are the ones who deal with making the glasses. :-)

For now, he doesn’t want to remake the old ‘script since he found the mistakes in the ‘script and I’m willing to give it another try. We’ll see how this works out.

It’s just one 90 degree day and that’s better than the three, maybe four they’d predicted. I’ll do the grocery shopping and pick up Bella’s pills tomorrow while it nice and stay home Wednesday.

Good idea to get stuff done while it’s still comfy and stay under the AC on the overheated one. Exactly what I’ve been doing. LOL!

Guess ‘ll finish this show and head out. My eyes are burning from watching the screen. See ya manana!

It’s hard to slow that lil feller down. LOL I’ll bet it leaves you beat after keeping up with him on those toasty days.

I see he found something “special” to roll in. Happy pooch. :-)

I make a point of getting things done on the better days. That’s why I pay close attention to weather reports. LOL

I do miss living where there are 24-hour stores because I prefer to shop in the middle of the night. Fewer people. And during summer, it’s cooler.

Sleep well. Catch ya tomorrow for the quiz. :-)

PS: Our humidity has gone from about 10% to 63% in a matter of a few hours. The difference is crazy! Nighty-night!
