Unfortunately Roe vs Wade is pretty popular so this issue will help Democrats get their vote out.

This may save the Senate for the Dems.

In Democrat minds this is such an important issue it means stealing the elections is a noble thing. Really.

Right. Perhaps even the House.

That’s what this is all about.

However, the Supreme Court ruling would have hit before the election anyway. I think they were hoping the SC wouldn’t overturn Roe, and they were sitting on the leak from February, but decided it couldn’t wait. I suspect they found out just recently that none of the majority were going to flip

I agree. This will galvanize the moderates, independents, and the Democrats.

“This may save the Senate for the Dems”

Because they are state races, the Senate is hack able and vote fraud can win Senate races. It is doubtful they’d lose the Senate, even before this.

Fraud in 435 districts is much harder and fraud districts already vote D anyhow.

This is way too early. It will be a distant memory by the time the election gets here. If this was about the election, they would have waited until it dropped, not leaked it even earlier.

This is about trying to change the decision.

Then we fight to get the message out.

We don’t play political expediency on this one, do the right thing and let the chips fall where they may.

Nonsense. Abortion is unpopular. If it is popular then the states will make it legal in the states where it is popular. The states is where this issue belongs, except I don’t think it would be wrong to make it just like Murder, Manslaughter etcetera, make it the right of the state to control and punish. If you don’t like it go to a state you do like.

“This may save the Senate for the Dems.”

Maybe that’s the plan.

The people for whom the right to abortion it their most important political issue are already solid Democrat voters. There's no net gain.

The risk is that Republicans allow the abortion issue to become the central focus of the campaign and candidates in the mold of Aiken and Mourdock step on land mines.

Every GOP candidate is going to be ask if they want a complete ban on abortion (a politically unpopular stance). The best thing they can do is defer to the ruling that focused on states' rights and pivot away from the issue of abortion and onto the economic issues that really affect voters.

You are exactly right. This is terrible timing for republicans. I know abortion isn’t a niche issue on this site and passions run high. But this was the last thing we needed when we were all lined up for a dem slaughter in the midterms. Now those one issue radical dbags will come out in force with their hyperbolic predictions of doom to all women if they vote R.

Which is why it was leaked, and which is why RINOs like Roberts will vote for it in order to help Democrats in November.

I'm not so sure. The critical element in the debate is whether “unlimited” abortion rights will prevail or whether some sense of moral relevancy is present. Most Americans support abortion in the first trimester (61% AP/NORC). That number drops to 32% for the second trimester and only 19% for the third. I'm pretty sure that the California proposal of extending abortion rights up to 28 days AFTER the infant has been born is a nonstarter for most Americans. From the polling numbers that I have read, the majority of Americans seem to have the attitude of, “OK. We all make mistakes. But clean this up in the first three months, Honey.” After that, people's patience drops rapidly.

It will be interesting how this plays out. It is also interesting that SCOTUS didn't keep Roe v. Wade and draw that same line themselves - if you can't make up your mind in 12 weeks, we'll make up your mind for you.
