Levin: 'America first' doesn't mean sticking 'your head in the sand'
Fox News ^ | 4/24/22 | Kristine Parks

Posted on 04/24/2022 7:16:30 PM PDT by conservative98

Fox News host Mark Levin explained what "America first" means to him, Sunday, by debunking the notion that our founders were "nationalists."

The "Life, Liberty & Levin" host said how the word "nationalist" cannot be found in our founding documents because the founders and framers "believed in Americanism," guided by "natural law and rights," not nationalism" or "populism."

"The Tenth Amendment rejects nationalism. It’s federalism. Talks about state sovereignty. Why do we have a Ninth Amendment? Have you read that one lately? It talks about individual liberty, it is in my view, a reflection of the Declaration. They put it right there in the Ninth Amendment. That is your protection. Nationalism strikes me as an all powerful, centralized federal government. Right? I am not a nationalist."

"There’s a fusion there. The one outright hates the country, the American Marxist, trying to destroy it from within. The other says ‘I love the country so much, we have to isolate it from everything and everything else.’ Really?" he explained.

Instead, Levin argued, "America first" means responding to global atrocities like Russia's war with Ukraine, to stop another world war from happening.

"America means embracing capitalism but not selling to the enemy or giving to the enemy weapons they will sure as hell use against us… And Americanism means to me when you see mass graves in Ukraine, now, 9,000, when you see people being slaughtered by a monster and a war machine that is imperialistic, that if they have their way … will light the fuse with its allies in communist China in terrorist Iran, in North Korea … really creating a true world war."

"America first doesn't mean putting your head in the sand and pretending otherwise. You want to protect your children from war? You stand up now," he urged.

Levin's analysis is muddled. Nationalism is a valid and organic part of American history, expressed at the time of America's founding in a belief in America as new and exceptional, destined to expand and become a great nation in the world.

Notably, the terms nation and national appear frequently in the Federalist Papers. The sense that bears most directly on Levin's argument is of America's national interest as referring to the country's collective interest as opposed to the interests of particular states and factions.

To be fair to Levin, I think that he is challenging nationalism as a basis for a narrow view of America's role in the world. Strongly pro-Ukraine, Levin is opposed to the isolationism that has now emerged as a strong sentiment on the Right in opposing aid to Ukraine.

The stronger approach for Levin and Ukraine's advocates is not to fashion a dispute over American history and the meaning of nationalism but to point out that, when a hostile autocracy that is one of the world's major nuclear powers goes on a tear against a neighbor and endangers core American allies, America's interests are implicated. If nothing else, we want the friendly democracy to win and our allies to be safe and secure. We are bound by honor and interest to deliver help toward those ends.

Unfortunately, some on the Right have gone from a sense of dislike of Biden and prudence as to what we do to help Ukraine into an embrace of isolationism and deference toward Putin and Russia. For all the risks of aid to Ukraine, there is an outsize potential benefit from a Russian defeat: Putin's ouster and the evolution of Russia toward democracy and alignment with the US and Europe.

If that occurred, it would do much to curb turmoil in the Mideast and the threat from China. In sum, there is good reason to see Ukraine's fight as our fight as well.

Marxists have infiltrated the institutions, including the dictionary publishers. "Nationalism" has been redefined by them as something bad.

An example of what I mean is the case of Webster's redefining the term "sexual preference" as offensive just days after Mazie Hirono scolded Amy Coney Barrett in her confirmation hearing for the USSC.

but I am also not a traitor and am always on the right side of things.

You may think you're a legend in your own mind. But you are dead wrong on Ukraine. Worse you espouse the same propaganda as all the sources that have flat out been lying to us for years. You know this, yet you let them manipulate you to do their work for them. I just have zero respect for people like you, simple minded fools.

Levin is just chomping at the bit to send American troops over to Ukraine to die in a hot war with Russia.

I would suspect Levin’s family came from that part of the world, and hasn't cut ties from there.

So, you support Biden. Your little binary world view reflects the 2 brain cells you have.

He'd never have the guts to debate Tucker on this.

How many Americans do you want to see die over Ukraine?

You make me sick.

Commonalities between Levin haters on this thread and the earlier one:

1) Don’t listen to the show or haven’t listened in years
2) Love them some Trump— beyond all reason. (did y’all get your Trump-boosters?)
3) A pinch of Jew-hatred.

That’s a fact.

You’ve basically subscribed to the same fallacies the leftists do. “If you don’t agree with me you must be stupid or have evil motives.”

“What’s wrong with nationalism?”
*********************************

Absolutely nothing is wrong with it. LEVIN IS QUIBBLING when he says the founders didn’t believe in nationalism but believed in Americanism. NEWSFLASH for Mr. Levin: “Americanism” IS the nationalism that Americans feel.

Levin is marching in lockstep with the warmongers when it comes to Ukraine. And the fool doesn’t even get the smallest cut of the fungible TEN PERCENT!

Excellent comments everyone!

1.) Levin’s arguments were centered around Putin! Putin! Putin!, not Biden! for where were his statements about:

a.) Kids of multiple Dems and Repubs on energy boards in Ukraine. b.) Burisma. c.) Biden: fired the Ukranian prosecutor or no $1 billion to Ukraine. d.) Bioweapons labs. e.) Putin is an autocrat but Zelensky is also an autocrat who shut down all opposition political parties, left or right and shut down all media critical of him painting them with a broad brush. f.) Shortly after Trump was elected one can see that Dems and the libtard media had Russia on the brain even then as the Russia! Russia! Russia attacks started quickly and the fake information dossier was ongoing well before Trump was elected so Dems have been obsessed with Putin for a considerable amount of time. g.) The Obama-backed coup in Ukraine in 2014.

2.) Levin peppered his statements will Logical Fallacy “Enotional Appeals” and “Strawman” arguments on his show on TV tonight that was on a little while ago (rerun from earlier). Plus he used an Argument Based Upon Silence saying the word Nationalism was not in the Founders documents.

Using Occam’s Razor, Levin:

3.) Created the construct of Nationalism/Marxism, supposedly arguing against both. But he exposed himself having Uniparty tendencies to some extent:

A Bush leaguer will come into office and argue against Marxism wwhile getting us involved in an interventionist war in Iraq via neoconism.

Then an Obama/Biden league type will get in office and argue against Nationalism and then bomb Libya, Syria (arming shady groups there), Yemen, etc, via neoliberalism.

When Trump was running for reelection, Bush came out of nowhere and made statements that hurt Trump and the Dems embraced him. Now Jeb Bush ia saying Trump needs to get out of politics.

And notice the globalists now are all in on Ukraine.
