Maskaholics

The pandemic has eased, but not the compulsion of many Americans to cover their faces. Fully vaccinated adults are still wearing masks on their solitary walks outdoors, and officials have been enforcing mask mandates on airline passengers and on some city-dwellers and students. (Though today’s ruling by U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle in Tampa, declaring the Biden administration’s mask mandate for public transportation unlawful, comes as welcome news.) Maskaholics in the press are calling for permanent masking on trains, planes, and buses.

High school students in Seattle staged a protest demanding that a mask mandate be reinstated, and psychologists now deal with the anxieties of children who don’t want their classmates to see their faces. They’re suffering from “mask dependency,” as this psychological affliction is termed in Japan, where a long tradition of mask-wearing during flu season has left some individuals afraid at any time to expose their faces in public.

It’s a difficult addiction to overcome, according to the Japanese therapists who specialize in treating it—but a simple remedy might help some maskaholics. It’s a graph that should be required viewing for everyone still wearing a mask and every public official or journalist who still insists that mask mandates “control the spread.”

I’m so glad masks are being done with but confession time: I now feel exposed without one and in public I will at least wear one on my chin. See, I have skim disorders on my face that makeup used to be enough for me to feel ok but now Im dealing with some mouth frown lines on top of it that make me feel oogly

I’d like a random sampling of the sex of those who choose to wear the diaper. From my casual observations it is about 80 to 20 Karin’s to men. Just seems like that and worse the guys who wear them seem to be with Karin’s!

I haven’t flown in years.

Don’t have any plans to start.

It wasn’t just the muzzles for me.

Yes. The CDC had several NIH studies as late as May 2020 that concluded that masks were of little use in preventing spread of ARS viruses (Rhinovirus, Influenza, Coronavirus, Adenovirus).

For many years that had been the accepted conclusion. It’s why Fauci told the truth at first. Then...politics took over, and the rest is history.

I call 2020 the year science died. It was already on life support over anthropogenic climate change BS, but COVID killed it altogether.

I hate to run against the trend, and I oppose mandates, but wearing a mask on a plane flight (2 hours +/-) is something that makes sense to me. People are basically filthy animals, and I want barriers between me and them.

I am an asthmatic(been that way since childhood) and masks make it harder for me to breathe. We usually hate anything over our face.

That said, I have a neighbor who insists on wearing one while shopping. I drove her to a Meijer store and she proceeded to get that ugly mask out and put it over her face. I was going to say something and I thought, Oh hell, why bother. She is going to do it anyway.

The covid shots(3 of them) have done a lot of damage to this woman and she worries about a mask.

When I see someone wearing a mask outside or in a car, there isn’t much wiggle room there.

But I think so many people of all ages have been frightened into it or indoctrinated into it, so I try not to make that assumption when I see people inside wearing a mask.

Note I am not saying that masks work inside and don’t work outside, I am simply saying that any normal, rational person should understand that a mask in your car or outside is irrational and can be judged as either ideological, stupid, or irrational.

If someone insists on wearing a mask inside, I try to keep in mind that they may be a sheep (as many people are, and don’t want to ‘break the rules’) an indoctrinated person (as many very young children are) or scared to death (because there are people who deliberately have done this to people for ideological purposes.)

You can’t lead a horse to water. I never say anything. I just hope that if folks are doing it out of ignorance, they shift their brains out of neutral.

Life it too short to go through it ignorant and miserable.

Me too. I was born with asthma and always had problems breathing. I'm almost 65 now and can not breath with a mask on. I would tell people in the stores I don't care how many signs you post about wearing a mask. My lungs can't read them.

I dye my beard with henna powder. It is more natural looking than dyes like Just For Men®, and it does not have harsh chemicals. However, it takes about 8-12 hours for the color to set. Until then, it leaves my beard looking a bit greenish (the powder is green in color). I liked being able to apply the henna on a Saturday morning and run my errands with a mask covering the greenish beard. That was the only good reason I had for wearing one.

I see people every day who are wearing masks in idiotic ways. For example driving masked while alone in a car, wearing masks while walking outdoors or masking to enter a restaurant then unmasking while at the table. Masks were never anything more than a symbol without any science to justify their use. Even with the end of mask mandates and the media giving up on COVID hysteria, I expect to see the true believers dutifully masking themselves and sadly their children for the next several years.

We still have people who insist or imply (even on this very forum) that everyone wear masks.

In our area we now have a rampant problem with outrageous amounts of shoplifting. Most of the longtime employees are gone and the youngsters who have taken their place don't do anything about it. The shoplifters all wear masks and typically glasses. They do not bother to even make an attempt to hide what they are doing. When I see someone shoplifting I alert a store employee. They will most often say that it is not their job to stop shoplifting and they will get in trouble if they do anything about it.

If I see an old lady or man wearing a mask I assume they are afraid of catching Covid. But well over 90% of younger healthy looking people entering a store wearing a mask are now shoplifting.

That, FRiend, is an utterly depressing summary of a situation.

Which, I believe, is EXACTLY what the Left wants.

You want barriers between yourself and humanity? Then stay locked in your house. Cheap face diapers do nothing to prevent spread of viruses.

I don’t see many face diapers in my area anymore, but yeah, I’d say the majority of the ones I see are on women. I do see guys wearing them too, however. I figure those people are self-identifying as Biden voters for the most part. 😏

The single deadliest flu pandemic in history was the Spanish flu pandemic during 1918-1919. Occurring in the three waves of increasing lethality, the Spanish flu killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS did in 24 years. It also killed more people in one year than smallpox or the Black Plague did in 50 years.

The people driving alone with a mask on are particularly stupid.

The best way I've heard it put is that wearing a mask while alone in your car is like wearing a condom while alone in your bed.
