Biden blames COVID AND Putin for soaring gas prices, admits it's 'hard to tell' when they will go down and says Americans will save $80 a month if they buy an electric car as he unveils plan to reduce pain at the pumps

President Joe Biden said Thursday that record gas prices were caused by the pandemic and Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine as he unveiled a two-pronged plan to increase supply and reduce demand.

He announced he would release a million barrels of oil per day from the nation's strategic reserve for the next six months and accelerate the switch to electric vehicle.

But his analysis of the cause of the crisis will attract criticism for opponents who accuse him of shifting the blame for his administration's economic woes.

'The problem we're facing with gas prices has two roots,' Biden told reporters at the White House.

'First, the pandemic. When COVID struck demand for oil plummeted so production slowed down worldwide.

'Because of the strength and the speed of recovery demand for oil shot back up much faster than the supply. That's why the cost of gas began to rise last year.

'The second root is Vladimir Putin.'

At the start of the year the price of a gallon was about about $3.30, he continued, while today it is averaging about $4.22.

Democrats don’t understand shit.

“Just buy an electric car!”

I know. Everything they touch turns to chaos, becomes way more expensive...You pay more and get less and less in return. Outrageous prices in every direction.

The only way to combat this is do not buy anything unless you absolutely need to have it. That's exactly what we've done. And I think were actually saving a few bucks at this point.

Here in the Phoenix metro, there’re many who live in apartments. Most, if not all are not equipped with charging stations. You might get some in the wealthy parts of town, but not likely anywhere else. How does this braying jackass expect those who I’ve in apartments to give up their evil gas powered vehicle for a supposedly zero emissions electric one and no way to charge it?

I wish I could get it that cheap. Not even Costco in Kalifornia.

hadnt really thought about the apartment issue but yeah...that is a huge stumbling block

That restaurant featured in the Sopranos Superbowl ad for the Chevy vehicle had a lot of phone calls asking if that charger station was really in front of their place. It’s not.

He has no idea what it means to have to compete in the job market, work, earn money, pay most of it in taxes, pay for a house or apartment, try to save money and pay one’s expenses.

He has lived off his government job and has no idea what it’s like.

How will I save $80 a month by spending tens of thousands of dollars on an electric car?

Right now, I don’t even spend $80 per month on insurance and gas combined, and indeed, my insurance alone will likely increase by $80 per month if I buy a new car!

If they are so great, then why isn’t full of crap Biden riding around in an electric car?

I can’t wait to get my $50,000 EV and park it in my driveway all night because it might burn my house down if it catches fire while being charged. I’m sure when it snows, we have a bad thunderstorm, or thieves wander by everything will be OK too.

“Does anyone have one of these electric cars? Does it really save you that much money considering your electricity goes up (not to mention people cant afford the cars)”

Yes it does. Actually it saves more than $80 per month. The problem is that most people couldn’t buy an electric vehicle even if they could afford it right now unless they are willing to pay a $5000-10000 markup. The other problem is that once everyone is driving electric vehicles what do you think will happen to the cost of electricity?

What and who in Congress has said anything about this? What they’ll do to change it?

Save $80/mo...Hmmm

I’d like to know:

1. How long does it take to recharge typical EV?

2. Miles per charge?

3. The cost of purchasing and installing an at-home charging station...I really don’t want to go hang out in some charge station area for however long to recharge!

4. How long do the batteries last and cost of replacement?

As an aside, I had a Honda Civic Hybrid when gas prices spiked before, and it handled horribly on snowy roads.

Depends on where you are. In SoCal, you most definitely cannot buy 10,000 gallons of gas for $40,000. More like 5,000.

1. Depends on the EV. With a 240v outlet at home, figure a Model 3 charges at 30-40 miles per hour.

2. Depends on the EV. Anywhere from 85 for the little useless ones, to 400 for the top end.

3. For a Tesla, approximately $1200 installed.

4. For a Tesla, factory warranty guaranteeing performance for 100,000 miles.

Does anyone have one of these electric cars?

Yes, I bought one, but mostly because it's a great car with fantastic acceleration/performance and nice amenities. It was a splurge for me, and definitely not done for the gas savings. It will take a long time to break even on that basis.

And you won’t be able to buy a gasoline car either.

I don’t count california any longer. It is dead to me. It is a lost cause better conceded to the Pacific.

Nissan Leaf $27,400 / $80 = 342.5 months or 28.5 years. How long is the battery supposed to last?
