I disagree that the base is 'splintered', rather we are capable of having different opinions about a regional conflict barely 30 days old, which might be a foreign concept to a Dem trained to parrot one-speak.

So let me get this straight. We’re going to borrow another few trillion dollars to fight a war for years, which we will lose again anyway, like in Iraq and Afghanistan and Viet Nam.

We’ll get all the dead and wounded soldiers, whom we’ll treat like crap while Germany, France, Sweden, Norway do nothing, pay nothing, but get free health care.

Am I missing something here? God, these leaders of ours deserve raises. Oh wait...

Well, I think that depends on the pro Putin people. Trump has been pretty darn clear recently that the US should do a lot more to help Ukraine, although short of sending troops.

So, I think the question is whether Putin supporters still support Trump after this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-c1Me0Kezg

As a practical matter, at least on this issue, I’d say the pro-Putin people are nearly irrelevant. While they make up a large % of FReepers and such, their arguments convince almost no one else, and given the choice of Biden vs. Trump, on this issue Trump probably picks up more support than he loses.

Note that my above answer assumes a long struggle (maybe turning into a “super Afghanistan” for Russia) in Ukraine, and Trump being able to make his case to most of the US population, including a plan to win that greatly lowers energy prices in the US.

The Ukraine and Russia have historical ties, but not necessarily lord and serf.the ukraine has been a separate and a cojoined land.

However, since the end of the Soviet Union, all the ‘buffer states’began their search for self-autonomy apart from Russia.here lies the problem.

Russia, rather Putin, does see tbis as a means for the West, to install missile bases in thosre now fee states.

i am a trump supporter. i suport a free, ndependent and self-autonomous ukraine. i feel this conflict is a problem of Putin’s desires to ‘repatriate’ an old buffer state.

the ukraine is not NATO, yet. should we send Marines? no.
should we supply them with materiel? yes. it is their country, their future, to be decided by them.

Regardless of the division or ‘splintering’ as the writer calls it, this debacle is all the fault of Biden (or whoever controls him) and his ‘diplomacy.’ He and his ‘US intel sources’ goaded Russia into attacking on his SOTU address timetable so he could get a bump in his numbers.

The problem with Dear Leader’s scheme is Zelensky who isn’t satisfied with one of the largest influxes of sophisticated Western weaponry but wants direct Western involvement in fighting his war - to the extent that he’s willing to risk a world war to do it.

Agreed.

The facts we all agree on, I think, is that TRUMP kept Putin from invading anyone (unlike GW BUSH and B HUSSEIN OBAMA) and that TRUMP tried to help Ukraine—he did so militarily AND with an eye to trying to weed out corruption in that nation.

His work on weeding out corruption got him impeached.
