Mass. Republicans Describe Growing Fractures in State Party

The divide within the Massachusetts Republican Party is growing wider.

Republican State Committeewoman Janet Leombruno is concerned about what's been happening with the state party.

"It is incredibly hard to operate in the party today as a pragmatic centrist," she said.

Leombruno described the tension at the January state committee meeting, when member John Miller tried to get Chair Jim Lyons to seat duly elected state committeewoman Nicaela Chinnaswamy.

In video provided by a committee member, Lyons can be seen at the podium yelling at Miller, who is trying to raise a point of order. Lyons tells Miller he's out of order, saying, "There's the door, there's the door, John."

"We realized then that he has no intention of working within the rules," Leombruno said.

The video goes on to show Lyons saying, "I will remove you, John." When the crowd gasps, Lyons calls for security.

"And then he started to walk out to go get security, and then everybody just got up and left," Leombruno said.

She says it's just one example of the party fracture — with hard-right conservatives who favor former President Donald Trump versus Gov. Charlie Baker's more centrist faction.

"This is Massachusetts. These are people who want a moderate lifestyle, they don't want extremes," said former Massachusetts GOP Executive Director Gene Hartigan.

He says the party always had divisions, but he explains that things are different now.

"They always understood the basic rules of the party and how to deal with that, and when it came time for elections, they united and got together," Hartigan said. "I don't see that happening now."

"I feel like if I leave, then we leave it to kind of the fringe of the party," Leombruno said.

It never occurs to these moderates that the fractures are caused by them!

We conservatives have ALWAYS held our noses and voted for one worthless candidate after another.

But Charlie Baker et al just couldn't hold their noses and vote for one of our guys - because he was just too icky!

And that's how it's been. A one-way, always-moderate, never-conservative street.

Well times have changed, and they don't like it.

Jim Lyons is a pro-Trump fighter. And the moderates are pantywaist who will vote for Democrats in the end anyway.

They should invite Pierre Delecto to return and reunite the party.

Interesting to read that there are actually Trump Republicans in the MA GOP. The article is kind of vague as to which side is which, though I guess from the tone, Lyons is the Trump guy and Leombruno and Miller are the centrist squishes. May be time to see if I can get into politics...

A while back I heard Lyons denounce a female politician in Massachusetts who expressed disgust at two homosexual men adopting children.

So at least in my book they’re all just different levels of garbage. I just hope I’m visiting friends out-of-state the day that the sulfur begins to rain down in Massachusetts.

Lyons is the good guy, that’s all you need to know.

The Boston Globe hates him.

The MassGOP website is a freaking ghost town, some subpages are even broken. I get that they’re a third-class organization in this state, but building a working website is not that labor-intensive, and at least looking like you know what you’re doing is 80% of being successful.

You have it a bit backwards. Jim Lyons didn’t join the RINO GOPe chorus.

Jim Lyons is a pro-Trump fighter. And the moderates are pantywaist who will vote for Democrats in the end anyway.

Steve Bannon talked about MA on his show, primarily Western MA and a grass roots movement to run for the committee's that pick candidates, and other elected positions. It's effective and it's scaring RINO's, GOOD....

I was involved in my MA Republican Town Committee for awhile. Their guiding principle was: “Never do anything that would upset Democrats”. They considered me a pain because I was a Conservative, and I gave up after awhile.

Mass. Republicans Describe Growing Fractures in State Party, not Mass Republicans Describe Growing Fractures in State Party.   Always attention to detail.

Nope. You are wrong. What I said is exactly accurate. Although Lyons said the woman could remain in the party, he denounced her for expressing disgust that homosexuals adopt children. I heard him with my own ears on one of the Boston radio shows. I remember it vividly cuz I realized this guy talks a good game but he’s just another reason that the state and the country is the moral mess that we are.

The Massachusetts GOP will be, even, weaker, after this November. The total Massachusetts GOP has been drowning in RINO Republicanism, for many decades and counting, and True Conservatism isn’t welcome, at the state level, at any time! There’s no state as Leftist as Massachusetts, and it isn’t, even, close. All of Washington D.C. is more Leftist than Massachusetts, and that’s it.

Please, DO. You’re needed. Trump is recommending it. General Flynn is exhorting the like minded to do so.

It All starts locally in our own county Republican party, to try to keep it clean, or take it and clean it up.

The State party is put in place at the Counties level.

The big steal occurred in counties. Selected counties, in urban areas.

The investigations are examining counties.

Not states.

“This is Massachusetts. These are people who want a moderate lifestyle, they don’t want extremes.”

In other words, say nothing while the ruling Democrat junta of your state destroys it, but still find common ground with them. Typical RINO squishiness.
