Praise God. This is the best ending scenario.
The worst would be if the hostage taker were still alive and subject to imprisonment. That would have just given his
terrorist pals a second madman to scream and shout about freeing.

I was thinking some kind of sedative gas could have been placed into the ventilation system. Just enough to put everyone inside lightly asleep for 30 minutes or so.
There would of course be dangers to that tactic as well as the others.

Can you imagine if the hostage taker had lived? He would be a leftist celebrity, invited to speak at colleges to an enthusiastic audience.

The Russians tried that in Moscow in 2002, but 130 hostages died when they were not revived from the sedative gas fast enough.
