Powerful US nuclear submarine enters Russian territorial waters

The powerful American nuclear submarine of the Virginia class named USS New Mexico has approached Russia’s territorial waters.

USS New Mexico is a powerful US nuclear submarine carrying Tomahawk cruise missiles that has been discovered in northern Norway and is believed to be on its way to Russia’s territorial waters

The purpose of the appearance of this nuclear submarine is not clear yet, but analysts say it is related to negotiations between the US and Russia on Ukraine.

It is not excluded that Russia will send anti-submarine reconnaissance aircraft to “monitor” US nuclear submarines when they approach their territorial waters.

Currently, the nuclear submarine USS New Mexico is located about 500 km from the Russian territorial border and will quickly shorten this distance.

Special construction materials, unique aerodynamic design combined with water jet propulsion engines make Virginia-class nuclear submarines become “undersea killers”.

As the most modern class of submarines currently in the US, Virginia has extremely low noise levels, is almost invisible in the deep sea so they can silently approach targets and destroy the enemy.

The Virginia-class nuclear fast attack submarines were developed in the 2000s after the Seawolf-class nuclear submarines were canceled due to being too expensive.

Virginia-class submarines are designed as multi-purpose nuclear submarines capable of combat, intelligence gathering, clone deployment, and cruise missile launch.

Of course if they cared they would not have been detected/seen.

Renfrew is correct, the Norwegian Sea , the Barents Sea and the entire Arctic Circle has been a U.S. (and soviet) submarine deadly playground for seven decades.

nothing to see here except to the uninformed

Yes, and as rlmorel inferred it may be only the media that wanted to report sighting the sub in Norway in order to push their own narrative of ...

"However, it is believed that the submarine arrived at the Norwegian port for the purpose to stage new provocations against Russia."

"Russian warships, submarines and anti-submarine aircraft may soon set off on a mission to intercept the US sub, the website noted."

"For the time being, USS New Mexico is staying some 50 kilometers from the territory of Russia. The United States may thus be trying to put more pressure on Russia before the NATO meeting."

The press has never been satisfied with simply reporting events they feel it's their duty to try to shape events. This was not an event worth reporting so it must be about shaping things.

If the Russians still have any functioning subs

Not only do they have functioning subs, but their new classes of sub are on par with US subs, according to the US Navy. Sub building is one of the largest components of Russia’s military budget.

For all we know it’s complete misinformation. Remarkable that the position of a virtually silent fast attack sub is being published in blogs and online rags.

are we going to hand them a nuclear sub now?

or just let their top sub engineers full access to the boat?

it wouldn’t surprise me

“Unlike Cornpop, Putin is real.”

True on our weak leader, but Putin is attempting to play chess, but is using pawns 1930s style with his, “I’m on your border with an army”.

It’s a stupd lose-lose scenario that Putin put him self into.

Invade: win but take Javelins destroy and embarrassing number of tanks, then all of Europe/West really put the screws to Russia’s weak economy.

Don’t Invade: Weak azzed Biden faced you down and your bluff is exposed.

“..but their new classes of sub are on par with US subs”

Umm....No. Their newest stuff, is their old stuff, that they couldn’t bring to production, let alone become operational.

They have about 70 total subs, mostly designed in the 70s and early 80s. They have about 7 subs of newer design, that are completely inferior and louder than our subs.

If the article author knew how many times our subs have been inside Soviet/Russian territorial waters he’d crap his pants.

It’s on Indian site. So certainly some translation issues, but they’re just bad at forming complete coherent paragraphs too.

Didn’t say it is. Just saying it was indeed a budget sub, basically after the Seawolf proved too expensive for declining MIL budgets. Part of that budget is from making it smaller. Less material = less cost. I’ve always had my doubts it’ll ever be up to par as in the Los Angeles class. But, perhaps if they really do build as many as promised, it can be formidable.

I worked on this ship. Short time but one never forgets the circus one goes thru at EB. My uncle was a major figure on the Ohio weapons systems.

Take it up with the US Navy that’s their assessment. You are wrong according to the Navy about how inferior and loud they are. Sorry am doing other things here and have no time to supply oinks - look on Defense One, War zone and others

Yes, seems really stupid. And a Non-American rag at that.

But then, it might not’ve been that secret anyway. This sort of surveillance happens all the time. It’s not really a story.

Nah, I’m well read on the subject.

The Navy is merely fronting that we need to keep modernizing our Navy and we need more budget, primarily with China.

BTW the Chinese J-17s are literally falling apart at a huge rate in Pakistan.
