U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- My everyday carry is a Glock 17 in a Fobus retention holster. It was fitted with Glock factory tritium night sights when refurbished by a Glock armorer a few years ago. A spare magazine is carried in a narrow pants pocket. The ammunition is 115 grain Triton +P 9mm hollowpoints. When a need for more concealment than easily achieved with the Fobus arises, the deeper concealment pistol is a Smith & Wesson 337 Scandium revolver with a 3 1/8 inch barrel, adjustable sights, and Crimson Trace grips. Various holsters and concealment methods are used. It is rated for .38 Special +P loads. It is loaded with 125 grain Federal +P Nyclad hollowpoints. Spare ammunition is carried in two HKS speedloaders.
The subject of everyday carry necessarily starts with a clear understanding of what the objective of carrying the firearm is. This is a highly personal decision, with numerous purposes and combinations. Each person needs to consider their own objectives, risks, benefits, the environments they will be in, and choose accordingly.
For this correspondent, the primary objective is political, with a secondary objective of defense of self and others, dominated by deterrence over tactical surprise.
I ordinarily carry openly. Open carry is more politically effective than concealed carry. The two methods complement and reinforce each other. Both have advantages and disadvantages. I have often practiced both at the same time.

My point was that I don’t have the manual dexterity to operate speed loaders. As for me, I prefer a revolver. Just be packin’.
I understand. I prefer revolvers over semis, too. I have the speed loaders mainly to carry in a pouch in a loading fixture that can load better than fumbling with loose ammo. But in the end, 5 or 6 rounds needs to be enough or there’s trouble.

I went ahead and standardized on 9mm for my snubbies, too. Ruger LCR 9mm, and I had my 442 machined for 9mm. Moon clips are much easier for me to reload than speed loaders/strips.
True, with a 5 rnd revolver one would be at a disadvantage against another with hi-cap mag.
Most incidents probably wouldn’t require more than 5 rounds. Who knows. Every situation is different.
Years ago, I picked up a Ruger SP101 in 9mm. It was in the consignment case at a local gun shop and had an appealingly low price tag. I find loading moon-clipped ammo to be easier than using traditional speedloaders. Not as quick as slapping a fresh magazine into a semi-auto, but pretty darned close. The Ruger is a wee bit on the heavy side for everyday carry, but it’s as rugged and reliable as anything else out there.
I’d suggest a G18 mag for your vehicle as spare ammo for the G17. Gives you up to 33 additional rounds in an easy to stow and deploy package.
Everybody has an opinion about open or concealed carry. I am not opposed to open carry, I do so on certain occasions. When I do, I also carry a concealed firearm as a back up. I see open carry as a statement, makes me a target, and I want that back up if for some reason I am disarmed. For my concealed carry, being 5‘8“, I find that with normal clothes it is difficult to conceal A full-size my room is so many people talk about doing. I don’t want to wear baggy clothes, look fatter than I am. I find the Sig P365 easy to conceal with most attire. I normally use extended magazine, so I have 12+1. When size is a serious issue, I have a Ruger LCP II. And when size is not an issue, I have an HKVP9 or VP40. When I go to California my car carr, is a Smith and Wesson J-frame 357. At the end of the day, everyone has their own choices, these are mine, I don’t criticize people for their’s.

I finally broke down and admitted to myself that I could no longer see the sights and the target without doing the pecking chicken movements to get my bifocals to work. I got a CrimsonTrace trigger guard sight, sighted it in with a chamber laser for 30 feet, bought a custom holster that fits the pistol with the new appliance, and have been very happily carrying ever since. All I have to remember is that the closer the target, the slightly higher the hit will be, about 1.5” up at 3 feet.
To be fair, let’s put Jerry M with his 625 up against Rob Leatham with his XDM.
Remember that JMs SW-625 uses moon clips which are significantly faster than speed loaders.
Perhaps carrying one in the open and two more concealed is the ticket. ;-D
That's true, as far as it goes, but this isn't a news piece and Mr Dean Weingarten is too seasoned and stalwart a defender of 2A/RKBA to be casting him adrift because the dangles the occasional participle.
There aren't many who have a platform as visible as his who still can be counted to shoot from the hip and not couch their opinions in the interests of his sponsors. In my view that qualifies him for a bit of syntactic leniency.

Agreed. I'm also tired of 'revolver vs semiauto". I own both and mostly carry a small semiauto now. Truth is very few mass shootings take place at a hardware or a tack & feed store, and those two stores are where I do the bulk of my shopping....
But I wouldn't feel naked carrying my S&W Model 60. 5 rounds of 357 in a gun I'm very familiar with is nothing for a bad guy to sneeze at. In church, my favorite is a J-frame with 38 specials and a Desantis clip hooked on my jeans pocket
