Kim Potter, the former Brooklyn Center, Minn., police officer who fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright earlier this year after shouting “Taser!,” on Thursday was found guilty on first-degree and second-degree charges of manslaughter.

Officers pulled Wright over in April after noticing that he had been driving with an expired tag and that his rearview mirror had an air freshener illegally hanging from it. Officers tried to arrest him after learning that there was a warrant out for his arrest regarding a misdemeanor weapons violation.

IMHO: She basically condemned herself by admitting during the shooting she screwed up.

From what I remember from the video was that it seemed that the one officers was trying to cuff the perp and did it so sloppily with some sort of handoff to officer Kim Potter and that is where the perp slipped away.

Maybe someone can describe to me "police immunity"? Cops are our there risking their loves everyday as they do their jobs. Unfortunately, accidents happen. So they should get the benefit of the doubt. So Kim Potter should lose the badge. Maybe she should not qualify for her benefits because what she did was serious. But to try her for manslaughter seems to be excessive when she was just doing her job.

This will mean that certain urban areas will become "no-go" zones (escape from New York).

BLM must be appeased.

I hope she will appeal.

Would you want to die because someone somehow used their gun instead of a stun gun?

If she gets covid, she can go home and not have to ever serve time. What’s good for the goose right?

Cops will start to resign in large numbers when they see they can go to jail for doing their jobs.

“Would you want to die because someone somehow used their gun instead of a stun gun?”

No, but then, I don’t resist arrest. And even so, I hope my family wouldn’t want someone WHO MADE A MISTAKE go to jail for 20+ years!

I knew she was in trouble when she took the stand in her own defense. That is a desperation, hail mary tactic.

What a tragedy. Because of her incompetence and her PD's failure to train her properly a man is dead and her life is ruined.

Maximum possible sentence for manslaughter in Minnesota is 15 years. Based on Minnesota sentencing guidelines, she likely faces a maximum of 7 years.

“ Done to prevent rioting(?)”

Done to prevent any future law enforcement of “people of color”.

Which is the real practical effect.

No. But I also would not put a cop in the position to be making split second decisions under stress and fear. When was the last time you were in a fight?

Precisely why I would never run from the police.

My neighbor is a recently retired Minneapolis area police sergeant and keeps in touch with other current and retired Minnesota law enforcement. The consensus is she screwed up by not having her taser out before she yelled “taser”. He also said there should have been more backup before trying to make an arrest.

Or to be judged by someone somehow who thinks that cops aren’t human too, and can’t/shouldn’t make mistakes.

I don’t see myself fighting cops with a record of crimes as long as my arm.

I wouldn't ever be in that position, because I don't violently interact with the police, so it's really a non-issue.

Mr. Wright made a nearly unfathomable series of incredibly bad decisions that led to this.
