The jury has reached a decision in the trial for Kim Potter, the former Minneapolis-area police officer facing manslaughter charges in the April 2021 death of Daunte Wright, as a verdict will be read shortly.

"A trial outcome has been reached and will be read on the record today between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. CST," according to a notification sent out by the Minnesota Judicial Branch by midday Thursday.

For one thing, this person should have never been a police officer. This is what happens when the standards are lowered. Her defense should have pounded home that this was a justifiable homicide. The scum bag was driving away with a police officer halfway in the vehicle. A verdict of 2nd degree manslaughter or negligent homicide would have been more consistent.

When the officers ran his name, they discovered that Wright was driving on a suspended license, there was a restraining order against him, and a bench warrant for his arrest on a weapons charge. They had no choice: They had to arrest him.

I do not disagree that Wright's arrest wasn't warranted.

But as one officer began to handcuff him, Wright resisted, jumped back in his car and was about to flee — along with an officer trapped in the passenger window, trying to get control of the gears.

I also don't disagree that Wright was trying to flee. I question why deadly force was required. After being shot he did drive off and none of the officers were injured. Had he done the same without being shot there's no evidence that the results to the officers would have been different. If her story is accepted she wasn't going for her gun in the first place so obviously she didn't feel shooting was justified.

“The police experts testified that the circumstances warrented lethal force. Even though she thought she was using a taser she would have been justified using a firearm.”

Yep, I am probably one of the most vocal on this board against current LE militarization, policy, and training. But with this one she did the proper thing in this particular situation.

But it was not her personally, it was one of those few events where the training to just pull and fire body mass without thought happened to be appropriate. In no way do I blame her, she was just on autopilot per how she was trained.

So you think a Tazer would have prevented him from mashing the gas pedal? He would have ran either way.

And they are going to hold her without bail.

Probably. But using the Taser would have kept Potter from being charged with manslaughter.

Her own police department testified she was justified to use deadly force (her gun), under their guidelines. He was a known multiple violent offender, and threatening the life of at least 1 of the officers... seems wrong to me.. but woke is still going to claim victims.

Yeah, in this political environment it would have only been attempted manslaughter.

Daunte Wright’s own stupidity and criminality got him killed. It is horrible that a cop has to pay any kind of a price for that punk’s stupidity.

Who would sign up to be a policeman if a mistake can send you to prison?

It was a good shoot. She is convicted of a crime when it was a good shoot. Awful decision.

It was a knock out in the first round, but the opponent was handed the fight anyhow based on an irrelevant technicality.

When?

I'm not questioning whether or not Wright should have been arrested. I'm questioning why he had to be killed in the process.

Maybe. But she had a much better chance of beating that rap.
