The Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk believes that septuagenarians are too old to run for high office.
In what could be a dig at President Joe Biden or his predecessor Donald Trump, Musk said that there must come a point when a politician's time is up.
"Let's set an age limit after which you can't run for political office, perhaps a number just below 70..." said his tweet which as of Thursday morning had been liked more than 76,000 times.
Musk did not specify whether he was referring to the U.S. presidency, which has a lower age limit of 35 but no upper age limit.
However, his latest message comes amid question marks over Biden's fitness for office, which has been scrutinized by commentators and pollsters one year into his presidency.
Biden is the oldest person to ever serve as president and turned 79 on November 20.
He will be in his eighties on the campaign trail for the next presidential election in 2024. If he is re-elected and serves a full second term, Biden would leave office aged 86.

Ageism rears its ugly head. But apparently Elon doesn’t mind getting billions of dollars in funding from the elderly Congress.
Regardless of age, mental acuity should be required for politicians of any age (hint, hint AOC).
Of course, we now have a person occupying the Oval Office who is the poster boy for a flatline EEG.
No. This is the same as specifying race. It is competence that matters. Which is sorta why BeijingBiden was chosen. He is not (never was) so he is a useful tool.
I prefer a Ronald Reagan over a Walter Mondale.
How about a candidate taking a cognitive test first to make sure senility is not setting in? That would be a better measure.
Elon Musk is right on this. In the primary, DeSantis is my first choice. That said, Trump is the exception to the rule when it comes to the age of the President. He is unusually vigorous for his age. It helps that he had good habits growing up which included him not touching a drop of booze.
Is “60” the new “30”?
Asking for a friend.
I agree.
My grandpa worked till then, but he was the exception. By 75 he outlived two wives, and most of his siblings.
I think he is right.
“Some 80 year olds are like Biden and should not be in office. Others are experienced, wise, energetic and more than capable. Select on the person, not the age.”
I don’t agree with this thinking. It’s a four-year term.
Nobody signs a 4 year contract with a 40 year-old quarterback, and I wouldn’t vote for an 80 year-old candidate no matter how well s/he passed a current mental test. Too risky.
I’m starting to get up there but I’ve got to say I agree with him, there needs to be an upper age limit. People don’t necessarily get wiser with advancing years, they start believing their experience trumps critical thinking skills. They also get more authoritarian and risk adverse, “if I wouldn’t drive over 35 then there’s no reason anyone else needs too either” type of thinking. A perfect example is Nancy Pelosi who should have been out of congress 10 years ago. If she was just a congressperson it would limit the damage she can do, but having an 82 year radical leftist as house speaker has done immeasurable damage to our nation.
Anyone in government on their 80th birthday should be retired from office. This includes the Supreme Court.
He was simply making a 69 joke.
Libs have no sense of humor.
It varies a lot based on genetics and life choices.
I am in my 60s and am definitely slowing down, both physically and intellectually. I am self-employed in a fairly high stress profession and am not at a point yet where I need to retire, but there is no way I would be competent to run for a high elected office (I could still handle city council or school board). At age 75 I hope to be sitting on a beach somewhere.
I had a grandfather that did not retire until his company forced him to retire at age 80 and he was still active and sharp into his 90s. He was born before the invention of radio, automobiles and airplanes and lived long enough to see men walk on the moon.
Marxists should not run for office, no matter what age.
In unrelated news, short people got no reason to live
Why not make it dependent on a physical and cognitive test.
Trump passed both, Biden can’t.
Never trust anyone under thirty.
Where is my car who’s that with my daughter what happened to all my tools..................................
i agree with him
We also should not subsidize private companies building electric cars.
No let’s not have criminals with dementia running for office.
People who can’t pass cognitive tests shouldn’t run for office, regardless of age. Trump passed his cognitive test. What about Biden?
