Beneath the Rittenhouse trial: Grim truths about the state of America (barf alert)
Salon via MSN ^ | 12 nov 2021 | Heather Digby Parton

The trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old who brought an illegally obtained AR-15 semiautomatic rifle to a chaotic street protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and shot three people, killing two of them, has the country riveted this week. The judge and the prosecutor have been at each other's throats, the top prosecution witnesses turned out to be more helpful for the defense, and defense attorneys unexpectedly put the baby-faced Rittenhouse on the stand, where he breathlessly sobbed like a toddler. Meanwhile, the judge got a phone call as he sat at the bench, revealing his ring tone to be Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA," an unofficial Republican theme song. So the trial has been both dramatic and bizarre in equal measure.

The case is important for many reasons having to do with policing, guns, politics and the growing acceptance of right-wing vigilantism in America. Rittenhouse has somehow become a symbol of all those issues, with the country split down the middle on whether he should be condemned for carrying an illegally obtained assault weapon across state lines (he lived a few miles away, in Illinois) and killing people or should be viewed as a hero for standing up to the left-wing mob and defending himself when challenged. His childlike demeanor confuses the issue even more. How could such an innocent-looking boy have done either of those things?

The judge and prosecutor have been at each others throats.

Lol. Too bad God doesn’t strike liars down with lightning on the spot.

The actual ‘grim truth’ is that the police when faced with looters, arsonists, rioters will stand down and allow billions of property to be destroyed - often not covered by any insurance - and do nothing.

The grim truth further is the F.B.I. had HD drones flying at these riots with evidence of hundreds if not thousands of crimes and prosecuted nobody. Only 2 weeks before trial with a young man facing life in prison do they turn over a ‘reduced quality’ image of the riot in Kenosha.

The most disturbing grim truth is corporations donated money to groups that rioted and looted and likely had support from (deep) state actors.

Any citizen who might stand up to the criminals or tries to stop the criminals from harming them will be tried for First Degree Murder.

" . . . where he breathlessly sobbed like a toddler.

He was re-living a moment where he faced imminent death and is being threatened with life imprisonment for defending himself. If smelly Heather had any compassion, she might understand that.

And if Rittenhouse remained unemotional throughout the trial, THAT would have been held against him, i.e., "Rittenhouse, as he did throughout the trial, remained cold, unemotional, and aloof, providing a window into his dark soul." There is no doubt that is the line they would have taken.

And then there’s Baldwin....who pointed a gun at an innocent, cocked it and pulled the trigger...and said....oh my...I feel bad. Did Baldwin have a license??

“for carrying an illegally obtained assault weapon across state lines”

This is a blatant lie, and everyone who actually watched the trial knows that. Seems like an open and shut case for defamation for Mr. Rittenhouse.

It’s one thing when anonymous people on twatter spout that nonsense, but a journalist with Salon won’t get away with it if a suit is brought.

“and the growing acceptance of right-wing vigilantism in America.”

Well perhaps the politicians and public officials can start doing their job cracking down on rioters, looters and other criminals? Just Saying.

“He was re-living a moment where he faced imminent death and is being threatened with life imprisonment for defending himself. If smelly Heather had any compassion, she might understand that.”

Not to mention that, as pointed out by a conservative blogger (Crowder?), his mother was sitting right dead in front of him bawling as he told his story. I’m 62 years old. If my mother were alive, and I saw her crying like that, I would probably cry like a baby, too.

True all.

Its hard to grasp how lawless, fragmented and dysfunctional this country has become. We no long resemble what used to be the USA.

"corporations donated money to groups that rioted"

Not only that, but corporations donated money to rioters who destroyed local businesses that were in direct competition with those corporations. A federal prosecutor who wanted to make a name for himself could probably fashion an anti-trust case based on that alone.

This from the fascist media that believes people should be shot for belonging to the NRA, or supporting Trump, or trespassing. They embrace violence when its directed at those who disagree with them.

Sure. The gun was not unlawfully purchased, and it was never carried across state lines. The gun belonged to Kyle’s friend, who legally owned it as a Wisconsin resident who was over the age of 18. Kyle lawfully bore that weapon, only while in Wisconsin, which is legal for 17 year olds to do in Wisconsin. Some lefties have also tried to assert the gun was “stolen”, but he was carrying it with permission of his friend, who actually purchased the gun specifically for Kyle to use when he was visiting him, with the understanding that when Kyle turned 18 they would perform a private sale to transfer the gun to Kyle’s ownership.

Solon needs to be held to account for this biased article. All trials are based on you are innocent UNTIL proven guilty in a court of law. They are neither judge nor jury and must hold their opinion until after the verdict is reached.
