Donald Trump makes dark suggestion about Alec Baldwin and fatal 'Rust' shooting
The Hill ^ | Nov 8 | By Adam Barnes |

Posted on 11/08/2021 5:26:49 PM PST by RandFan

Former President Trump baselessly claimed on a podcast last week that the tragic incident on the set of “Rust” involving actor Alec Baldwin and cinematographer Halyna Hutchins might have been intentional.

Baldwin fatally shot Hutchins in October when he fired a prop gun containing a live round. Authorities are investigating the matter, but no charges have been filed so far. The 63-year-old actor has said he is “fully cooperating” with the investigation.

Trump, who admitted he does not know the actor, told conservative podcast host Chris Stigall he believed it was strange that Baldwin would point a gun at a cinematographer and not a fellow actor on set.

"As bad as it may have been kept, meaning you know the people that take care of the equipment and the guns and everything else… But even if it was loaded, and that's a weird thing — maybe he loaded it," Trump said before discussing Baldwin’s imitations on Saturday Night Live.

"He's a cuckoo-bird, he's a nutjob. And usually, when there's somebody like that, you know, in my opinion, he had something to do with it,” Trump said.

"But if nothing else, how do you take a gun and just, whether it's loaded or not loaded, how do you take a gun, point it at somebody that's not even in the movie and just point it at this person and pull the trigger and now she's dead?" he added.

The opinion expressed by President Donald Trump has no evidence that would support it. None.

It is a plausible theory ("Because Baldwin is a jerk and we hate him"), but it is missing some essential links. Like anybody willing to testify that there was animosity between the two parties, or that Baldwin took careful aim at his victim.

The evidence thus far indicates that Baldwin was being a careless, arrogant jerk and ignoring industry-standard safety rules with which he had previous experience. He has no valid excuses for what he clearly did.

It is a bit of a stretch in my mind to go further and opine that he shot someone deliberately. Evidence, in the form of sworn testimony would change my opinion. So far, I could support a charge of Involuntary Manslaughter, or what ever the equivalent may be under New Mexico laws.

I do wish President Trump had said nothing on this topic.

The "Hill" still has it's peak just above the sewage level in the Swamp?

Or has it slipped below?

“prop gun” I stopped reading right there

It was a prop gun. In movie and theater parlance this doesn’t mean it was a fake gun, only that it was something brought in specifically to be used in the making of the movie in one or more of its scenes. This is in contrast to other guns around the set, for example one being carried by a security guard or policeman providing security.

For example, a chair an actor is sitting on in one of the scenes is a prop, but it is still a real chair.

Because the scene being rehearsed was him drawing and pointing towards the camera.

This is a nothingburger and Trump would have been better to comment about just any other aspect of this fustercluck event.

“involuntary Manslaughter”

If not, or in addition to, a wrongful death civil suit that will wipe him out financially.

Did Baldwin have the habit of pointing “prop guns” at people on the set, cocking the hammer, and pulling the trigger? Is that why people quit earlier because of “safety concerns?” Did someone set him up?

Who in the hell grabs a gun without checking the chamber, making sure the safety is on, let alone point it at another person???

Actors.

Most actors are completely incompetent at safe handling of firearms. But there is a big audience for action movies which require actors to pretend to shoot other actors. It's a problem.

That's why the film industry has the 79 Rules in "Safety Bulletin #1". They are all about making sure that actors never hold a live weapon on a set, nor have access to ammunition. Armorers and Weapon Handlers have a critical role in those procedures.

The "79 Rules" work very well - when they are followed by competent practitioners and enforced by the management. There have been literally hundreds of thousands of movie scenes shot in the past 50 years without anyone getting shot. Along comes Alec Baldwin.

I imagine a system of justice in which Alec Baldwin would serve a jail sentence, and then be asset-stripped to his underwear in the civil suits that followed.

It is good to have a dream.

"just point it at this person and pull the trigger"

It was more involved then that.

That firearm was a single action. Meaning that first, the shooter had to pull back the hammer to cock the firearm. Only then will the action of pulling trigger will fire the handgun.

Full meaning is that two actions in sequence required to make the kill.

Former President Trump baselessly claimed

Trump doesn't baselessly claim anything. If he asks the question, you can bet he knows the answer.

I have thought the same thing.

The media reports have been contradictory and sometimes dishonest.

There was no reason for Baldwin to aim that gun at that woman and pull the trigger.

The crew had walked off the set because they had serious problems with the production and with safety on the set.

Baldwin was a producer of the film.

Baldwin has an explosive temper and has threatened and/or violently attacked people for no reason in the past.
