Russian President Vladimir Putin was today overseeing huge military exercises within striking distance of Europe, including a beach invasion by the world's largest hovercraft.
Some 2,000 servicemen and more than 200 pieces of military equipment featured in the drill, as troops stormed ashore in a war game in Kaliningrad, on the Russian border with the European Union.
Elsewhere, Putin attended military exercises, which are being jointly held with Belarus, Armenia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia, at the Mulino range in the Nizhny Novgorod region in his role as commander-in-chief of Russia's armed forces.
Nine ranges in Russia, including in the Baltic Sea, and five in Belarus are hosting the joint military exercises which are worrying Ukraine.
In Kaliningrad, footage showed the huge landing exercise involving the Baltic fleets and others on the Zubr-class LCAC, the world's largest hovercraft.
Intended to sealift assault units from vessels to shores, the Soviet-designed hovercraft can also transport and plant naval mines.

That’s a big target.
Before you pee in your tighty whities, let me tell you that Putin is not going to invade the EU.
Have to use the toys once in a while. Rattle the sabers and try to deflect attention to the lack of the logistical basics to invade anyone.
Is that thing cool or what?
Russia loves its giant Cold War style weapons systems, even more than we do.
None of them will survive more than 5 minutes when against modern drone and missile systems.
One can only imagine the Bruhaha if Trump
had “overseen” a huge military training operation, personally.
Methinks, I agree. But sometimes a little saber rattling throws you adversaries off balance and makes negotiations a little easier.

Putin lords over a middling economy and a population that doesn’t want to invade anyone.
The biggest threat from Russia is that they will sel a war head to someone.
And they left a destroyer abandoned and full of night vision goggles, automatic rifles, ammunition, several drones, military grade explosives, etc. for their enemies to scavenge at will.
Wait, was that Russia or Brazil or India? Some big place, you know “that outfit over there”. Oh yes, that’s right, that was us!

FAKE NEWS! We spend 10 times as much as Russia, therefore we are 10 times better and they don’t have nearly the stuff in that picture - they simply can’t afford it if we can’t...and we can’t.

Lunacy. The Russian army is literally 10% of the size it was in the Fulda Gap days and the exercise is on its own turf or friendly turf. But let’s hyperventilate and give the pentagram a money bomb to spread out to the defense industry.
Pushover for our military but our politicians don’t have the will for war.
