Tropical Storm Fred
NHC/NOAA ^ | 10 August 2021 | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 08/10/2021 7:59:22 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Tropical Storm Fred developed in the Eastern Caribbean Sea. Tropical storm conditions are expected in portions of Puerto Rico Tuesday night, and in the Dominican Republic by Wednesday. The tall mountains of Hispaniola are expected to cause storm weakening. Interests in the southern Bahamas and Florida should monitor updates to the forecast for this system, but it is too soon to determine what if any impacts could occur there by late this week or this weekend given the uncertainty in the long-range forecast.

I lived through that one. Still remember people boarding up, making signs that said “Ready For Freddy!”

They are naming every flipping sneeze !

Try talking to the Texas Guard... Every time there's a cloud and a breeze in the gulf, they call us up for just-in-case hurricane duty. Really annoying.

How do I "mash" a graphic? I'm pretty computer-literate, and I've never heard that term outside of potatoes or the TV show..

You have either watch too much Sanford and Son, or too much of the Weather Channel. :)

In Nova Scotia, they “poke” graphics and buttons..

In our south, they’re mashed.

Hi NN. Thanks for doing all this year after year many of us do appreciate what you do.

It's amazing how a nothing storm like Fred can have some serious financial implications for those in its pathway. With the accelerated forward speed it could spell really good things for my family.

As for the NOAA buoys I heard a rumor that some of the lighthouses could be for sale. Whether or not they are the data system needs to be privatized and soon. It's unacceptable to have important light houses along the reef some 4-6 miles offshore of our southernmost coast for example from Miami to Marathon in operable month after month.

Let private enterprise take over and solve the problems of incompetent big govt.

If there were any sense in the world, we wouldn’t call it “flatulence”; we’d call it “deflatulence.”

Thanks for checking in, RG. Fred is going to have a difficult day crossing the mountains of Hispaniola.

Have not clicked on the Buoy Site for a great while.

Interesting to see that Frying Pan Shoals has added pictures.

Wonder if we’ll get any pictures from other Buoys during a storm of Hurricane.
