CNN — A new data analysis identifies clusters of unvaccinated people, most of them in the southern United States, that are vulnerable to surges in Covid-19 cases and could become breeding grounds for even more deadly Covid-19 variants.
The analysis by researchers at Georgetown University identified 30 clusters of counties with low vaccination rates and significant population sizes. The five most significant of those clusters are sprawled across large swaths of the southeastern United States and a smaller portion in the Midwest.
The five clusters are largely in parts of eight states, starting in the east in Georgia and stretching west to Texas and north to southern Missouri. The clusters also include parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Tennessee, and are made up of mostly smaller counties but also cities such as Montgomery, Alabama; Shreveport, Louisiana; and Amarillo, Texas.
Most of these states are currently seeing increases in Covid-19 cases.
“Parts of the country are just as vulnerable if not more vulnerable than they were in December, 2020,” said Shweta Bansal, an associate professor of biology at Georgetown University.
Those vulnerable clusters put all of the United States – and to some extent, the world – at risk for going back to 2020, since high-transmission areas can become breeding grounds for Covid-19 variants that could go on to evade Covid-19 vaccines.
“These clusters of unvaccinated people are what is standing in the way of us putting this virus down permanently,” said Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a CNN medical analyst and professor of medicine and surgery at George Washington University.

If the virus is as contagious as they claim, then science would tell you that most of the un-vaccinated people would contract the disease. The ones who survived would work together with the vaccinated ones to provide herd immunity. First virus strain that makes a successful species jump can have high lethality and then rapidly changes to infectious but not fatal.
This is a corona type virus which are a rapidly mutating type of virus. They are not a new type, they are common and well understood.

I know this first hand. I survived first 20 years of my life in virus infested India. I was vaccinated for smallpox in kindergarten but traveling in a overcrowded train at age 8 during all night journey caught smallpox virus infection. Smallpox has 30%+ mortality rates compared to 1.2% for covid.
I was sick as a dog, with 102 fevers and yellow blisters all over my 8 year old body. But my body was able to fight off the virus because of some immunity help from the vaccine.
I had 2nd shot of Moderna vaccine more than 5 months ago with no side effects except a sore shoulder and tired feeling for one day after the 2nd shot.
Covid science is a hodge podge of politics and science. Nuff said.

This idea that the unvacinnated are threatening the existence of the entire nation is a new talking point, as far as I know. That is intended to alarm everyone into demanding a vaccine passport, the real objective. Evidently, the unvacinnated around the world pose no threat.

I’m right in the middle of central Alabama. This crap about underserved communities is bunk. For months you could not turn around with out running into a vaccination drive or clinic. Even in very rural areas. Everyone who wants a shot got one. I reluctantly got the J&J because I wanted to see my sister in a care home. In Montgomery all restrictions are now lifted. The democrats are still happily wearing their masks and the rest of us are living our lives.

Used to be people could have conversations and value reproducing results, now it is all about publication, regardless or reproducibility.
Also, medicine was a practice and understood that a doctor’s experience added value, now a study with twenty people and published results - the media picks it up and the science is settled. Discussion is unnecessary, add it to the curricula going forward and anyone who challenges the settled science is a crack pot conspiracy idiot who needs to stay in their lane.
