New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for gun violence on Tuesday, marking the first of its kind ever enacted in the United States, the governor’s office said.
According to Cuomo’s office, the emergency declaration requires the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services to “gather and share incident-level data” from local law enforcement on gun violence and invests almost $140 million in intervention, prevention and jobs programs.
The order also establishes the Office of Gun Violence Prevention to “coordinate efforts and direct resources to emerging gun violence hot spots” and creates a new state police gun trafficking unit to stem the flow of illegal firearms into New York.
“This new strategy treats gun violence as a public health crisis, using short-term solutions to manage the immediate gun violence crisis and reduce the shooting rate, as well as long-term solutions that focus on community-based intervention and prevention strategies to break the cycle of violence,” Gov. Cuomo’s office said in a statement. “The disaster emergency allows the State to expedite money and resources to communities so they can begin targeting gun violence immediately.”

“Public health Crisis.” The strategy tested and proved out with Covid is that if you call it a “health issue” you can take away people’s rights by executive order and the courts will let you.

(When they go door-to-door through minority neighborhoods asking if everyone is vaccinated, will they be asking about guns, too?)
The 16 gauge has been in the closet for 70 years unless used for skeet shooting. It has never snuck out of the closet to shoot our family.
And there it is. I was wondering what the end goal was for all this “defund the police!” bullshit. And here’s the answer. Decrease the cops, gun violence skyrockets, you can then say “Our cities have become hellholes because of GUNS! We MUST do something!”. And you can claim all sorts of powers to tackle these new gun problems.
Cuomo just made himself a criminal. Citizens need to arrest and see to it that he pays the lawful price of his crimes

Cuomo and DeBlasio are both clowns who have mismanaged their administrations and have financially destroyed the State of New York; now they have to take 24 Billion dollars from Law Enforcement to keep the State financially viable. Now they want to take your guns from law abiding citizens. Do they really think the criminals will will stop breaking the law? My guess is they haven’t seen anything yet, the criminals are just warming up as they wait for citizens to be disarmed.

I would not be surprised if they go door to door to see if you have guns just like what the govt is proposing doing by going door to door if you haven’t gotton the shot!
Jobs programs? No doubt union bosses will jump right in and offer jobs paying union wages and only ask for funding that costs 3x what the worker is paid.
