Tokyo Olympics organizers are planning to distribute 160,000 condoms to athletes during the games, and will tell athletes not to use them due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The Olympics has a tradition of handing out 160,000 condoms to athletes who choose to engage in sex so they can do so safely it during their time at the games, The Guardian reported.
However, coronavirus rules this year stipulate that athletes should eat and sleep alone in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
The organizers said that the condoms are being handed out for athletes to raise awareness for HIV and AIDS in their home countries, according to The Guardian.
Breaking the coronavirus restrictions during the games could result in disqualification, fines and being sent home.
Japan's government and the International Olympic Committee have come under fire from Japanese residents, with critics saying that it is not safe to hold the games due to the coronavirus.
Japan has seen a slow vaccination rollout and has had Tokyo and other areas under a state of emergency for over a month due to a spike in cases.
The state of emergency is expected to be lifted soon due to a decrease in cases, but many believe lifting any restrictions could easily lead to another spike.
The International Olympic Committee has already banned foreign spectators at the games, and will be discussing having no fans at all due to the virus.

I remember from 12 years ago about the big hulabaloo made about the Olympic organizing committees providing condoms for the athletes.
It’s quite simple...you get a bunch of young, strong, fit athletes in the prime of life, getting together in one place at one time. You have, say, a lovely young female pole vaulter from Ukraine (Have you seen some of the outfits they wear now? YOWZA.), meeting up with a handsome young male taekwondo athlete from Germany. Nature WILL take its course, so they provide the condoms to prevent STDs and, of course, pregnancy.
Whether you agree or not, the OOC’s are just trying to cover their asses.. I mean bases.
That being said, the Tokyo OOC distributing the condoms and THEN saying you CAN’T USE them is the epitome of gross idiocy.
