Dr Fauci has weighed in on gun control and says he believes it is a 'public health issue'.

'Myself, as a public health person, I think you can't run away from that,' Fauci said when asked about gun violence during an appearance on CNN with Dana Bash.

'When you see people getting killed, I mean, in this last month, it's just been horrifying what's happened. How can you say that's not a public health issue?'

He made the comments amid mounting pressure from the Biden administration and Democrats for sweeping gun control legislation.

It follows a series of mass shootings in the US over the past month.

Aside from suicides I’d wager the vast majority of gun crimes are drug related. Drug dealers enforcing turf, drug dealers fighting for turf, people who rob drug dealers, people who retaliate against drug dealers who were retaliating for being ‘dissed’, drug addicts shooting liquor store clerks for money to buy drugs... and then your general increase in robberies and burglaries and other thefts by drug addicts who want money to buy drugs... and then you have a number of these mass shooters who are on psychoactive drugs or combinations of drugs some of which are prescribed by their doctors. They seem to help a lot of people but at the same time some small percentage of them will snap. It says so right on their labels. It may be a very small percentage but give the drugs to millions and you get hundreds or thousands who snap. Meth, fentanyl, bath salts etc are making people crazy.

I’ve said it for many years now, we don’t have a gun problem. We have a drug problem. There are no good answers, but some way to take the profit out of drugs could be a start. I am not for legalization in fact I was one of the mere 30% who voted against retail marijuana legalization though mostly because I think it’s immoral for the state to profit on people’s self destruction."
