Hours before city officials plan to release video of a police officer shooting 13-year old Adam Toledo, Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Thursday asked Chicago residents to withhold judgment and again called for peace. The mayor choked back tears as she discussed the city’s endemic gun violence, saying, “We can’t have that be what young people experience in our city.” “Simply put, we failed Adam,” she said during a City Hall news conference. Lightfoot recounted how, two weeks ago, “a tragedy occurred that left a child dead, a mother in mourning and a family in crisis.” “I have seen those videos and let me just say they are incredibly difficult to watch, particularly at the end,” Lightfoot said.

Why release it at all? Dead is dead. It doesn’t matter if a cop killed them or a gang-banger did it.
And we all know how many adults and children die on the streets of chicago on a weekly basis.
“Why wouldn’t they release them at 9 am in the morning rather then late in the afternoon closer to sundown!”
The rioters are like vampires, they basically only come out at night. Releasing the videos at 9 am would not be fair!
When you drive the fathers out of the homes, this is what you get. When you create a welfare state, this is what you get.

Let me get this straight: The police shot a person who faced at them while holding a gun after being confronted by police who were responding to a shots-fired call and they’re worried that the city of Chicago is going to burn when the tape is released?
Is that where we are today? Police can’t even engage people on the street who are firing weapons? We’re so screwed.
Lightfoot says ‘we failed Adam.” Who is ‘we’ exactly, Madame Mayor?

Because the video was recorded on an officer’s body cam and therefore it belongs to the taxpayers of Chicago. They have a right to view what belongs to them.
Because at 9 AM people are on the train going downtown to go to work, and all those people would get trapped with the rioters when everything kicks off and Lori has to raise the bridges again.
Kid was only one gun away from being unarmed.
Cops in Chicago, NY, Portland, Seattle and most blue cities should strike immediately. Walk off the job
I’m not calling for total immunity for police - not at all.
Rather, the pendulum has swung extremely to the other side - leftist politics and the politicians cops work for in these cities have made all local cops political targets. Its absurd that any police action now automatically carries the likelihood of prosecution and riots.
I sense this is what the Left has wanted all along - the diminution of yet another aspect of local governance and civic control. There will never be “no cops,” rather a new leftist/centrally controlled form of law-enforcement.

Correct but now this just out: (he fired gun, residue found on his hand, but didn’t have it when he was shot)

But now, in response to a WGN Investigates inquiry, the state’s attorney’s office says the detail about Adam having a gun in his hand the moment he was shot was inaccurate...

From the Tribune article: “The gun he was holding landed a few feet away and was recovered, Murphy said. (snip) The gun recovered near Toledo matched the cartridge casings found at the scene where Roman had been firing, according to the prosecutor.”
