In a previous existence, I was involved with the relatively successful development of an electronic subsurface exploration system which I would probably describe as a low frequency ground penetrating radar. Its readings readings of interest result from differences in electrical conductivity in the zone of influence of a radiated signal. Its sort of a metal detector.
I didn’t have any real money and they moved on to other sources. After Y2K, I discovered that they did the subsoil searches under contract with the UN weapons inspectors in Iraq a few years previously.
They found a number of interesting buried things in the desert, including obvious machinery and parts on pallets to process uranium for whatever.
Among my questions was, “Where was the source of these materials?”
Answer - Germany and France.
The also mentioned that the desert was a pristine environment for measurements, but that their stuff would disappear and show up in the market the next day.
